About This Pub
Oh, The Huntsman is one of those pubs that you hear about and think, 'I need to pop in for a pint and a bite.' From the buzz around the reviews, it's clear the staff are the heart of the place – they're super friendly and make every visit feel warm and inviting, like you're catching up with pals over a good meal. The food really shines too; that parmo is a winner, especially if you're not from around here and fancy trying something local and delicious. With a solid 4.3 rating, it's no surprise it's popular. But, on the downside, a few folks have mentioned it's not quite the same since the ownership changed – things feel a bit downgraded, and it's pricier now, which is a shame if you remember the good old days. Still, for a relaxed night out, I'd say it's worth checking out; just keep expectations in check and enjoy the positives.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly, welcoming, and go out of their way to make you feel at home, like chatting with old mates.
-
The food is a real highlight; that parmo is spot on, with fabulous homemade chips and creamy coleslaw that had me coming back for more.
-
It's got a lovely, relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for a casual get-together, and the service is top-notch, quick and attentive.
Cons
-
It seems like things have slipped a bit since the new owners took over; some say it's not as good as before, with a few downgrades that take away from the charm.
-
Prices have gone up, making it a tad more expensive than it used to be, which might put a damper on things if you're watching the pennies.

The only reason I've put 3 is because I've only been there like 2 times since the owner sold it and it's was claimed by some other people. It used it be better, it's still ok but better in the past. It got a bit more expensive as well and it's just not the same, everything's been downgraded a bit. Again, overall it's good. But this isn't your like weekly place.
Came up from Derbyshire for the local football and googled “Newton Aycliffe parmo” as we knew we were close to parmo territory (you dont get them in the midlands). This pub came up and it did not disappoint! Absolutely delicious parmo, fabulous homemade chips and creamy coleslaw. The lady behind the bar was very welcoming, friendly and very attentive, exactly what you need after a long drive, a welcoming happy smile and good food. Thank you
Been to this pub a few times and I have never had a bad experience. The staff are the real makings of this place. They are superb, always so friendly and welcoming. I visited last Wednesday and I was served by Abi who was such a lovely polite young lady. Nothing was too much to ask with her. The time before, about a month ago I was served by a lady named Charlie I believe her name was and again, her customer service was outstanding. They really go above and beyond to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. Will definitely be going back.
Hallie, never felt more safer or at home being at this pub, the atmosphere is so friendly and helpful. I would recommend to anyone, not even mentioning the food, the food is amazing as well as service, Charlie and Abi are also exceptional at their service, come to this pub,
I decided to visit one Wednesday lunchtime. It wasn’t too busy so I was served rather quickly.
I decided to order the Pan Fried Black Pudding to start with and it was a generous portion and very filling.
The customer service is friendly and the food is good quality.
