About This Pub
Ah, Blakes Sports & Lounge Bar – it's one of those places that really grows on you if you're after a straightforward, down-to-earth spot for a drink and a bit of sport on the telly. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the staff stand out as the real stars; they're chatty, helpful, and go out of their way to make your time there enjoyable, whether it's sharing a laugh about the latest match or just keeping things upbeat with good tunes. That said, it's not all smooth sailing – the place does feel a bit worn around the edges, with some mentioning it needs a good clean and a freshen-up to shake off that musty smell. Plus, if you're hoping for more than just drinks, like a bite to eat or some lively events, you might find it a tad lacking, and the carry-on from crowds outside can put a damper on things for the neighbours. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed catch-up with mates, especially if you appreciate the simple pleasures, but I'd say it's worth keeping expectations in check for a more polished experience elsewhere.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – they're friendly, welcoming, and really make you feel at home, like chatting about local football passions or just having a laugh.
-
You can count on a decent pint here, which is always a treat for a relaxed evening out.
-
The atmosphere picks up nicely on busier nights, with good music and a lively vibe that can turn an ordinary visit into something memorable.
Cons
-
It's a bit on the grubby side sometimes, with that whiff of cheap bleach and a general need for a spruce-up to make it feel fresher.
-
There's not a lot happening beyond the basics – no bar food on offer, and it can feel a tad quiet or lacking in entertainment options.
-
The noise from folks hanging around outside after closing can be a nuisance, disrupting the peace for those living nearby.

Honestly cannot fault the staff Niall on his second shift for the pub was lovely to speak to regarding his passion for Middlesbrough, I had heard lots of negative things on this venue, but my experience was completely positive. The staff were friendly and made the evening a good experience. Thank you.
Honestly cannot fault the staff, I had heard lots of negatives things on this venue, but my experience was completely positive. The staff were friendly and made the afternoon a good experience from engaging with customers to the music which was really good.
Last Saturday was the best night the atmosphere was amazing. Staff and door staff so friendly and very helpful
Not much going on here really. 80's music always on the old tv's. No bar food. Bit dirty and smells of cheap bleach. Least you can get a half decent pint. Could do with a refit or deep clean. 🤔
Because this place closes at 2am as soon as all the people have left its constant noise for 2 to 3 hours from people who are shouting, fighting and littering. Then they hover round aldi and back of town waking all local residents. When it was locldown it was bliss bit now its hard to get a good night's sleep without being woken up. I would suggest it closes earlier.
