About This Pub
Oh, you know, I've heard some great things about the Five Lamps Pub in Derby, and from what I've seen in the reviews, it's spot on for a proper pub experience. It's got that warm, cozy feel where you can just unwind with a pint, and the selection of beers and ciders is brilliant – whether you're sticking to the classics or trying something new, like that Fever Tree tonic for your gin. The staff really stand out; they're so approachable and make everything run smoothly, which adds to the relaxed and inviting atmosphere. It's conveniently located just outside the city centre, with easy access by bus or car, and there's even outdoor seating if you fancy a bit of fresh air. On the flip side, their online presence is a bit basic – just an Instagram page – so you might need to pop in to get the full picture. And while it's generally reliable now, there was a mention of it being closed once before, plus it shuts at 11 PM, which could be a downer if you're hoping for a longer evening. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out, and I'd say it's worth checking out for anyone looking for a friendly local with a bit of character.
Pros and Cons

They've got a cracking selection of beers, ciders, and even special ones like Fever Tree tonic for gins – something for everyone, whether you're after something traditional or a bit adventurous.

-
It's easy to get to, just outside Derby city centre with handy bus routes and a car park at the back, plus outdoor seating for when the weather's nice.
-
From what folks have said, the food's pretty good too, and the new management has really spruced the place up, making it even better.
Cons
-
The website is just a basic Instagram page, so you might not find much detailed info online before heading over.
-
There have been occasional issues with it being closed unexpectedly in the past, though it seems they've got that sorted now under the new ownership.
-
Closing at 11 PM might feel a tad early if you're in the mood for a late-night session.

Not been here in years since we moved overseas but still a lovely pub for a drink. Cozy, friendly and a good choice of drinks. They even had the fever tree elderflower tonic that we like in gin.
Fantastic pub just outside the city centre. There’s always an interesting mix of beers to choose from, whether you’re after something adventurous or more traditional. The service is excellent, and the atmosphere is always welcoming. A great spot for a pint!
This is a fabulous pub, with a great variety of beers and ciders. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Top notch.
Been here a few times and enjoy this smashing pub. Just outside Derby city, but easy walking distance and on many bus routes. Beer great, had a lovely pint of Bass today. When I’ve eaten here in the past the food has been good too. Staff friendly and polite. Car park at rear and an outdoor seating area. Well recommended 😀
Been meaning to visit for months, unfortunately on the previous attempt we found it shut.... turns out that the previous landlord had moved on.
This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, Brown Ales Pub Company has took over and massively invested in the place.
Judging by previous pictures the changes have been hugely beneficial, it's got a similar feel to a London pub (without the London prices) modern but warm and inviting, the garden has also had a massive revamp, it's got two sections, an undercover non smoking side and an enlarged open air side that's fully surrounded by glass.....it's also one of the hottest places I've ever been in the summer...and I've been to Egypt and Morocco!
The beer range seems to have also improved, they still have a few lagers on alongside a couple of traditional cask ales; however, there's now an excellent range of craft beer from the likes of Pentrich, Black Iris, Shiny, Polly's, Deya etc alongside modern cask from Two by Two, Pentrich, Bang the Elephant, Full Circle etc.
Full meals have gone, replaced by quality snacks such as Scotch Eggs, pork pie, cheese boards, olives etc, in my opinion it's definitely the way forward.
They've recently (May 2023) started limited tap takeovers/beer festivals with external food trucks in the garden.
The GM and staff seem to understand current drinking preferences, what makes a beer and a decent pub... which is awesome.
Alongside the Furnace and Flowerpot this side of Derby is absolutely worth visiting.
