About This Pub

Ah, The Hop Pole – it's one of those cosy spots that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really shines with its brilliant range of real ales that won't set you back too much, and the staff are generally spot on, always up for a natter about what they're pouring. The live music on Saturdays adds a brilliant buzz, turning it into a lively night out that keeps things fun and engaging. Oh, and that little beer garden is a nice touch for soaking up some fresh air with your pint. But, to be fair, it's not all perfect – there was that one tale of a less than welcoming host who hurried someone out the door, which does put a bit of a dampener on things. Still, with such a solid overall feel and plenty of positive vibes from regulars, I'd say it's well worth popping in for a relaxed evening, as long as you go in with an open mind for the odd hiccup.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of real ales at affordable prices, making it a top choice for beer enthusiasts.
  • Friendly and knowledgeable staff who are always ready to chat about the brews on offer.
  • Lively atmosphere with live music on Saturdays that really gets the crowd going.
  • Charming little beer garden for enjoying a drink outdoors when the weather's on your side.
  • Convenient location right by the tram stop, perfect for a quick pint after a day out.
Cons
  • Occasional off moments with service, like one instance where the host seemed eager to close up early, leaving a sour note.
  • The beer garden isn't quite up to scratch, as it's been described as not the best for a relaxing sit.

Great pub for real ales and not expensive either. Cannot comment on food as never eaten the food.

Proper pub with decent beer, friendly staff and a cute little beer garden. Live music on Saturday nights always has a great atmosphere.

What a miserable host. Looking forward to visiting for the first time in fifty years since I went to the local college, but she couldn't wait to get her out of the door to close. Shame

Been coming here for just over 2 year's now and love the real beer they have. Always a good atmosphere and the staff are helpful of there knowledge on the beer being sold. Every live act I've seen here has always been good and fun to watch can't recommend this place enough. Garden isn't the best in the summer but I can't complain to be honest

Great small pub, offers not bad selection of beers, very friendly staff, and having played with a band, can guarantee good live music. Also has an outdoor seating area, and conveniently the tram stops right outside the front door.
