About This Pub

Ah, The Hercules Bar – it's one of those Belfast gems that really pulls you in with its welcoming feel and solid grub. From what I've gathered, the staff and the crowd make it a delight to visit; you know, that classic Irish hospitality where you feel like you're among friends right away. The food stands out too – I'm thinking of that fork-tender roast beef or the lovely cod and chips that folks rave about, paired with a smooth Guinness for the full experience. It's just the sort of place you'd recommend for a relaxed catch-up or even if you're new in town. On the downside, though, it's a shame about the WiFi; it seems to play up a lot, and that could be a real pain if you're trying to get online. Plus, a few have mentioned the food isn't always up to scratch and there are these automatic service charges that might catch you off guard – definitely something to keep an eye on. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out, but like any spot, it's got its rough edges, so go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff and locals are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making it feel like a proper Irish pub where everyone gets a warm hello.
  • The food hits the spot with dishes like tender roast beef in pepper sauce and beautifully battered cod and chips – perfect for a hearty meal.
  • It's got a cosy, traditional atmosphere that's just right for relaxing with a pint, whether you're on your own or with mates.
Cons
  • WiFi can be unreliable and not always working, which might leave you frustrated if you need it for anything important.
  • Some find the food just average and there are complaints about automatic service charges being added, so it's worth double-checking your bill.
  • Service can be a bit inconsistent, with a few reports of it being okay at best, which might spoil the experience on a bad day.

A very friendly and welcoming customers made me feel very welcome. As you'd expect from the Irish. I'd recommend here for a traveller either on your own or with others.

Their roast beef in pepper sauce is goofy delicious. The beef is fork tender, the potatoes are perfectly prepared and the sauce is bonkers. Wash it all down with a Guinness and pass out on a street bench. Super friendly staff and cozy atmosphere makes Hercules totally awesome.

Before I ordered a beer, I've asked "do you have WiFi access?" And they said Yes. Of course they have but it's not working. I asked owner for restart access and he doesn't agree for that - without reason. So you scammed tourist for 5£. Nice. I hope you will invest it into your internet.

Food is mediocre and service is ok. For non locals: be careful as waitresses might add service charge automatically even for couples, you can ask to get it removed. I would not go back.
