About This Pub
Oh, you know, if you're ever in Belfast and fancy diving into some proper Irish pub culture, Kelly's Cellars is the place to go – it's been around since 1720, so it's got this incredible old-school charm that just draws you in right away. The live music sessions are brilliant, with trad tunes filling the air most nights, and the Guinness is poured to perfection without costing a fortune, making it a real highlight for a casual get-together. The staff are dead lovely too, always up for a bit of banter that makes you feel right at home. On the downside, it's not somewhere for a big meal – just the odd bowl of Irish stew if you're lucky – and it does get packed to the rafters, so you might have to jostle for space or plan your visit carefully. All in all, it's a fantastic spot for soaking up that authentic Irish craic, but keep in mind it might not suit everyone for a low-key evening.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The historic atmosphere is absolutely charming, making you feel like you've stepped back to 1700s Ireland – it's a real treat for anyone who loves a bit of history with their pint.
-
Live traditional music plays almost every night, creating a lively and authentic Irish vibe that's perfect for getting into the spirit of things.
-
The Guinness is spot on and reasonably priced, especially compared to other places in Belfast – it's just what you want from a classic Irish pub.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and a chat, which really adds to the warm, homely feel.
-
When it's available, the Irish stew is hearty and delicious, offering a simple yet satisfying taste of local fare to go with your drink.
Cons
-
Food options are pretty limited, with just the Irish stew on offer most of the time, so if you're after a proper meal, you might need to head to one of the nearby spots.
-
It can get really busy, especially with the live music, which means you might end up waiting or standing if you pop in at peak times.
-
There's no option to book a table, so it's all about getting there early on busier nights, which can be a bit of a faff if you're not quick off the mark.
-
The place can be quite noisy and energetic, which is great for a fun night out but might not be ideal if you're just after a quiet, relaxed drink.

What a place. Locals don’t need to be told but this is one of the oldest and best pubs in Belfast. Amazing Guinness and very reasonably priced compared to the rest of the city. Come here and enjoy the wonderful live music on offer every day.
Kelly’s Cellars is a Belfast gem dating back to 1720. With its historic charm, great Guinness, hearty Irish food, and lively traditional music, it offers an authentic pub experience. A must-visit for locals and tourists alike who want a true taste of Irish warmth and culture.
Fantastic atmosphere tried my first Irish pint of Guinness and the rumours are true it does taste so much better live Irish music playing couldn’t ask for more for a traditional Irish experience staff and all patrons friendly had security on the door making sure everyone there was the right age no drama just a great experience lots of seating indoor and out door has a rain shelter for outside and toilets where clean couldn’t ask for more.
Apparently the only food they sell is Irish stew but we had already eaten before arriving but everyone recommends it and says it tastes amazing.
A proper Irish pub where you can listen to live Irish music. The pub gets very busy both in and out but it's a great atmosphere and a must see! Loved it!
We wanted an Irish stew and popped into this place. Very popular as there were a lot of patrons. We decided to sit inside and our order was taken at the bar. Irish Stew and some ciders to wash it down. The stew was delicious, looked small but it's filling. Served with a slice of bread. Service was brilliant and polite. Felt welcomed. There was music but didn't realise it was live, there was a wee band on the other side. Such a lovely atmosphere. We stayed a bit after eating to catch one of the performances. Such a cool place to come a d chill out and enjoy live music.
