About This Pub
Ah, The Hare & Hounds – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper British pub done right, tucked away in the charming village of Speen. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, the food is where they truly shine; think mouthwatering dishes like scallops, venison, and lamb that's cooked to perfection, all made with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients that support the community – it's that farm-to-fork ethos that makes every bite feel fresh and thoughtful. They've got menus for every occasion, whether you're kicking off the day with a full English or enjoying a Sunday lunch, and it's brilliant how they cater to different preferences, including plenty for veggies and vegans. The vibe is relaxed and inviting, with options to sit inside or out in the rose garden, and being dog-friendly adds a nice homely touch for those who like to bring their furry mates along. On the flip side, though, it can get a bit hectic when they're packed, and service might not always be as speedy as you'd hope, which is a shame because the staff are generally lovely and handle things like dietary needs well. Overall, it's a solid choice for a meal out or a special event in that private room, but I'd say it's best to go with realistic expectations – the good far outweighs the occasional slip, making it a place I'd happily recommend for a great night with friends.

Great venue with private room for party of 10 combining birthday celebration with valentines. Private room was just the right size and made the evening special. Service a little slow due to being very busy however we have been before where it was much better. Will return for either occasions and if I were working away from home would definitely stay in the accommodation and enjoy the food and atmosphere.
We went for an evening meal- the food was absolutely fantastic! The sourdough, scallops, venison and lamb were all particularly brilliant.
I had the pleasure of enjoying the Hare and Hounds’ Christmas Day menu, and it was truly delightful. The dishes were beautifully prepared, bursting with flavor, and perfectly suited for the festive season. Each course showcased fresh, high-quality ingredients with a creative touch. The service was equally impressive—friendly, attentive, and efficient, making the whole experience seamless and enjoyable. A wonderful way to celebrate Christmas!
We came to the Hare & Hound after a long walk and I serach of a good pub lunch. The Hare and Hound has seating both indoor and outside .
We sampled the croquettes with potatoes salad and lamb roast. This tasted amazing with lamb being cooked to perfection.
Nice place to grab a bite. There is plenty of seating and staff accommodates allergies. The menu is large and there is a large wine selection as well. Tried the fish and chips, scotch egg, onion soup, rum baba and apple cake. All were good. This is attached to a hotel and parking is free. There looks to be a lovely outdoor area, but it was pouring rain and unseasonably cold during the visit.
