About This Pub
Ah, The Hare & Hounds in Osterley – it's one of those pubs that really captures that classic British countryside feel, tucked away near lush green fields and just a stone's throw from Osterley Park. I've heard from quite a few folks that it's a brilliant place to pop in for a relaxed afternoon or evening; the interior is all warm and stylish, with plenty of space outside for when the weather's on your side, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, which is always a plus. It's spot on for casual meals or even sorting out a private do, and if you're out with your dog, they'll make you both feel right at home. On the food front, when it's good, it's genuinely tasty – proper pub classics with fresh, seasonal twists that hit the spot. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; some have had a rough time with portions that seem a tad small for the price, like shelling out £18 for a chicken burger that doesn't quite deliver, or meals that just don't cook up as they should, which can leave you a bit disappointed. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.3, it's clear most people have a good time, so if you're heading over, maybe stick to the classics and keep expectations balanced – it's a solid choice for a pint and a chat, as long as you're prepared for the occasional off day.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely charming and welcoming, with a cosy, stylish interior and a lovely outdoor space that's perfect for soaking up the sun or enjoying a quiet drink.
-
It's a great spot for a relaxed meal or a catch-up with friends, especially after a walk in nearby Osterley Park, and they genuinely make you feel at home.
-
The staff are really friendly and attentive, adding to that warm country pub vibe, and it's fantastic for private events or even bringing your furry companion along.
-
When the food hits the mark, it's delightful – think refined pub classics made with fresh ingredients, like a proper British lunch that leaves you satisfied.
Cons
-
Food quality can be inconsistent; some dishes, like that chicken burger, come up short on portion size for the price, which feels a bit steep at £18.
-
Service might not always be spot on – you could end up fetching your own condiments or cutlery, which takes away from the overall experience.
-
There have been complaints about poorly cooked meals, such as grilled chicken that's just not up to scratch, which is a shame for a place that promises fresh, seasonal fare.
-
Prices are on the moderate side, but when the portions are small or the cooking lets you down, it might not feel like great value for money.

Always like the pub but the food is a huge disappointment. £18 for a chicken burger that was no bugger than my palm and about 12 chips.
See the attached video. £18 for that! Had you have to grab condiments and cutlery yourself... won't even bring it to you even though the waiter has to past them to bring your food.
Won't be eating there again.
Ordered some grilled chicken with guests from India. Never had such a badly cooked chicken in my life. I always thought you can’t cook chicken bad but this place did. Chef should be ashamed.
It has been a while to post this but looking through the pictures I’m reminiscing the good time I had here with my first date)
The food was delicious, typical Brit stuff. And the staff was very welcoming. The atmosphere was peaceful.
Lovely lunch. Had olives to start, followed by gnocchi. Other dish was sausage & mash. Had chardonnay & Rum & diet Pepsi. Food lovely, atmosphere was great. Prices ok.
After a dog walk in Osterley Park, I had lunch at this lovely pub, and it was a real treat. The place is beautifully decorated, warm, and cosy, with a genuinely welcoming atmosphere for both people and their pups—not like some “dog-friendly” pubs that barely tolerate dogs. I felt truly looked after by the friendly team here.
Service was steady, though not as fast-paced as some higher-turnover pubs.
Personally, I thought the pace worked well and made for a more relaxed meal.
The food was good, though the menu felt a bit limited—possibly my fault for missing the specials board! That said, the chips were piping hot and delicious, and the drinks selection looked impressive.
Special thanks to Mia for being such a welcoming host to me and Hope! I'll definitely be back! 😊
