About This Pub
Ah, The Harbour Inn – it's one of those classic Edinburgh spots that you stumble upon and think, 'Now this is what a proper pub should be like.' The nautical theme gives it a lovely, relaxed feel, almost like you're by the docks without the sea breeze, and the beers and whisky are top-notch, making it a brilliant place to unwind with mates. The locals add to that welcoming buzz, turning a quick stop into a full evening of laughs and stories. On the downside, though, I've got to say it's a bit hit-and-miss with the staff; some can be a tad brusque if you're not a regular, and that jukebox has a mind of its own, blasting tunes that might just drown out your chat. Plus, there was that whiff of something unpleasant in one room – not exactly what you want when you're trying to enjoy a pint. All in all, it's worth checking out for the good vibes and drinks, but go in expecting a mix of the brilliant and the bothersome, and you'll likely have a decent time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is wonderfully friendly and welcoming, making it easy to settle in and chat with the locals over a pint.
-
They've got a great selection of beers and whisky that really hit the spot, perfect for a relaxed evening.
-
It's got that charming nautical theme that gives it a cosy, understated feel, like a proper local hideaway by the sea.
-
The overall vibe is relaxed and unpretentious, ideal for just popping in and enjoying good company.
Cons
-
Some of the bar staff can come across as rude or dismissive, especially if you're not a familiar face, which puts a damper on things.
-
The jukebox can get overwhelmingly loud at times, making it hard to have a proper conversation.
-
There's no clear heads-up on when last orders are, so you might get caught out unexpectedly.
-
One area had a bit of a nasty smell, like backed-up sewage, which isn't ideal for a comfortable visit.

Rude bar staff (cultural appropriation tattoos as well) unless you are a regular (daily/nightly) although I've lived in the area for 30 years! No idea when last orders is as they don't bother telling you. Juke box can be deafening because customers are able to access the volume.
I visited this bar on Saturday at 11 PM, as it was the closest open establishment to my hotel. Despite the crowded conditions, I managed to squeeze in and secure the last available seat at the bar. However, I was immediately met with a dismissive "done" from the bartender/manager (which was our sole interaction). Given the bar's 1 AM closing time and the presence of numerous locals with full pints, it was evident that the bar was not winding down. I was the only non-local, under 50, fair-skinned person present so yeah wouldn't recommend.
Just popped in for a quick drink, stayed all night . Great pub with a real friendly atmosphere. Barmaid was very pleased and made the night along with the locals.
Lovely understated local bar with a nautical theme. Very relaxed feeling. Seems to be frequented mainly by locals. Not going to find anything fancy here, just good people having a good time. Shame that it smelled a little like backed up sewage in one room. But that's life near the sea, I guess.
I have only one question... Why I'm not living in Scotland?!! I need to leave Nottingham definitely! People here are so nice, good beers, Wisky, beautiful landscapes and much more! Beer is so good! Love this place! And old pubs like this one!
