About This Pub

Ah, The Hambletonian – what a gem of a pub it is, tucked away in Norton. From what I've gathered from the reviews and the buzz around it, it's got that perfect blend of homely charm and lively energy that makes you want to settle in for the evening. The staff really stand out; they're so attentive and friendly, always greeting you with a smile and making sure everything's just right, whether you're there for a quick bite or a few pints. The food sounds spot on too – think hearty pub classics cooked fresh, paired with a cracking selection of beers and gins that keep things interesting. And let's not forget the atmosphere; it's cosy as can be, with nice views of the green and the odd live music night that adds a fun twist without overwhelming the place. On the flip side, though, their website's a bit unreliable, which might make planning a visit a smidge frustrating if you're relying on it for details. Plus, with the operating hours looking a bit muddled, you might end up double-checking before heading out, and being a smaller venue, it could feel a tad snug when it's busy. Overall, it's got a solid 4.5 rating from folks who've clearly had a great time, so if you're in the area, I'd say give it a go – it's got that heartwarming pub feel that makes you appreciate the simple pleasures, but just keep those little niggles in mind for a smoother experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – they're warm, welcoming, and make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The atmosphere is cosy and friendly, like popping round to see old mates, perfect for a relaxed evening.
  • The food and beer are top-notch; expect freshly cooked pub grub and a great selection of craft beers and gin that hit the spot.
  • It's got a lovely vibe with occasional live music, making it ideal for a quiet drink or a bit of entertainment.
  • The views of the green and unique touches like that Stephen Hornsey print add a nice local charm to the place.
Cons
  • The website's a bit of a letdown with errors popping up, so it's not the easiest way to check out menus or events beforehand.
  • Operating hours seem a tad confusing with multiple listings for Sundays, which might leave you scratching your head about when it's open.
  • As a smaller spot, it could get cosy to the point of feeling a bit cramped on busier nights, so space might be limited.

A quick visit in the area and wanted somewhere for a bite to eat after being turned away from other places as quite late in the evening. We were greeted warmly and asked if the kitchen was still open and after checking it confirmed it was. The food was freshly cooked pub food and of course served a local speciality a parmo 😋. My partner a lover of all things meat enjoyed his burger. If we are in the area again would definitely visit.

Good little pub with nice views of the green. Good selection of craft beers and gin. Staff very friendly. Sometimes have live music too. I would recommend for a quiet drink. Amazing Stephen Hornsey print of the Tees Valley On the back wall. Update...... Great little little pub, one of our favourite places. Which is why I choose it for the setting for my husbands 40th. It's quite a small venue, but it was the perfect size for us. I invited about 40, we all fit in quite comfortably. I hired the upstairs and Julian the chef did us a great pulled pork with buns, roasties and coleslaw. It went down very well and there was plenty to go around. The staff were all fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. I was able to bring my tablet to plug in to the music system and have my own playlist. There was a great selection of gin and beers. My brother was driving and he enjoyed a couple of alcohol free beers. I would highly recommend the Hambletonian, whether it's for a quiet drink, a bite to eat or for a function. Thanks so much for a great night.
