About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Half Crown – it's one of those unassuming pubs that just draws you in with its welcoming feel. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are top-notch, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels comfortable, which really makes it stand out. You'll find a great atmosphere where you can kick back with a pint of Guinness that's poured just right, and it's all at prices that won't leave you shocked when the bill comes. Plus, with the TVs on for sports and its prime spot near the bus, it's super convenient if you're heading out for the day. On the flip side, though, there was that one story about a visitor having a rough time with someone who'd had one too many, which is a shame because it could put a damper on things. Overall, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening, especially if you're local or up for mingling with the regulars, but just keep in mind it might not be perfect every time – still, I'd say it's worth a go for the good vibes and cheap rounds.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and friendly, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's got a really relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for settling in for the afternoon with a pint.
  • Prices are spot on for a good night out – nothing too pricey, so you can enjoy a few without breaking the bank.
  • They pour a cracking pint of Guinness, and there are TVs showing sports like racing and golf, which is great if you're into that.
  • Handy location right on the High Street, just over the road from the bus to Edinburgh, making it easy to pop in after a day out.
Cons
  • There was one off-putting experience mentioned where someone had a bit too much to drink and caused hassle, which could spoil an otherwise nice visit.
  • It seems like it's more of a locals' spot, so if you're not from around there, you might feel a tad out of place at times.

I am doing a charity hike for help for heroes and I was offered a 0lace for the night to which the guy took my stuff n was too drunk too returning it. Overall it was not a positive experience and although the bartender Sally was perfect in everyway my overall experience was okay. Thank you Sally x
