About This Pub

Ah, The Compass in Dalgety Bay – it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a laid-back outing, isn't it? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks rave about the food; think generous portions of things like haggis, steak pie, and those indulgent Sunday roasts that are as tasty as they are filling, all at prices that won't make your wallet weep. The staff really shine too, always on hand with a smile and efficient service that makes you feel like a regular from the get-go. It's got all the nice touches, like a beer garden for soaking up the fresh air and being dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out for a walk along the coast. They're not shy on entertainment either, with events like the Women's Euros and wallet-friendly deals that add a fun twist to your visit. On the flip side, the opening times can be a bit confusing if you're relying on what's out there, and its location might mean it's not the most convenient for everyone, plus it leans a bit more towards family dining than a quiet boozer. All in all, though, it's a solid choice if you're after good grub and good company – I'd say give it a go and see for yourself!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – from tasty lunch deals like the £8.99 ciabatta roll with a drink and side, to hearty options like steak pie and massive Sunday roasts that leave you feeling well satisfied.
  • Service is warm and welcoming, with staff who are friendly, attentive, and quick to make you feel at home, whether you're popping in for a quick bite or settling in for the evening.
  • It's got a relaxed and cosy atmosphere, perfect for a chilled-out day by the coast, with extras like a beer garden, dog-friendly spaces, and family vibes that make it versatile for different groups.
  • They keep things lively with regular events, like watching the Women's Euros, and tempting weekly deals that offer great value and a bit of excitement without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • The opening hours listed seem a bit muddled in places, which could leave you scratching your head if you're trying to plan a visit – best to check ahead to avoid any disappointment.
  • Being on the outskirts of Dalgety Bay, it might not be the easiest spot to get to if you're not local, so it could feel a tad out of the way for a spontaneous trip.
  • While it's more of a pub restaurant hybrid, it has a strong family-friendly feel, which might not appeal if you're after a quieter, more traditional pub experience just for a pint and chat.

I visited The Compass on the outskirts of Dalgety Bay for lunch and was thoroughly impressed. From the moment I arrived, the service was attentive and welcoming. The venue itself is spotlessly clean with a lovely ambience — calm, relaxed, and with background music set perfectly for a lunchtime setting. I ordered the Salmon and Vintage Cheddar Fish Cakes with Hollandaise Sauce, and they were superb — full of flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. I also had two cups of their freshly ground coffee and was pleasantly surprised by the depth and quality of the flavour — a rich, earthy taste that really stood out. Nice touches like being dog-friendly, clearly marked daily specials, and an inviting interior layout make this place well worth a visit. I’ll definitely be back.

Love The Compass! I go here every week with friends and the quality has been amazing every time! Service is friendly and fast! My go to is the lunch deal, £8.99 for Ciabatta roll or wrap, drink and a side!

Booked a table on Tuesday 4th March for a meal for myself and my wife. Steak Pie is second to none and the service was superb. Claire and Laura certainly made the night by their professionalism and their chat. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

We've just eaten the most amazing and huge Sunday roast - large portions and yummy 😋 the sticky toffee pudding to die for! Staff helpful and happy, service quick. All in all very enjoyable and worth a return trip.

My mom and I are travelling from South Africa, and we had no idea where to eat. We found the Compass, walked in, and we were greeted with smiles and great music. First time eating Haggis - it was FANTASTIC. The food was incredible, and the staff are friendly and communicative. Thank you to the Compass Team for making our first evening in Scotland one to remember. 15/10 would recommend!
