About This Pub

Ah, The Gryphon – it's one of those hidden gems in Bristol that I've heard so many good things about from mates who've popped in. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are absolute stars; they're always up for a chat, quick with recommendations, and make you feel like you're catching up with old friends rather than just grabbing a drink. The drinks selection is brilliant too – think tasty beers and stouts at prices that feel fair, perfect for a casual evening without splashing out. And the atmosphere? It's got that energetic rock and metal vibe going on, with music that's spot on and even live events upstairs, which adds a real spark to the place. It's surprisingly welcoming, drawing in a mix of folks, so you don't have to be a die-hard fan to enjoy it. On the flip side, though, the food's nothing fancy – just basic snacks, and you're welcome to bring your own if you're peckish for more. The opening times might catch you out, starting late in the day and wrapping up earlier than some might like, and without a website, it's a bit of a leap of faith to plan a visit. All in all, it's a solid spot for a relaxed pint and good company, but keep those cons in mind if you're after a full meal or something more mainstream.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always making you feel right at home with their welcoming chats and helpful recommendations.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of drinks, like great beers, stouts, and spirits, all at really reasonable prices that won't break the bank.
  • The atmosphere is spot on, with awesome rock and metal music playing, and even live gigs upstairs – it's a proper vibe for a good night out.
  • It's diverse and inclusive, so whether you're a metal fan or just popping in for a pint, everyone seems to get along famously.
  • The pub has plenty of space to sit and relax, and it's easy to strike up a conversation or even learn about new beers if it's a quiet evening.
Cons
  • Food options are pretty limited, just basic bar snacks, and you're encouraged to bring your own if you want something more substantial.
  • The hours can be a bit tricky, opening late in the afternoon and potentially closing early on some days, which might not suit everyone.
  • It might feel a tad niche if you're not into rock or metal music, even though the reviews say it's welcoming to all.
  • There's no website to check out menus or events in advance, so you might have to just turn up and see what's on offer.

Awesome metal pub. Good vibes, good beers/stouts and always music on upstairs. You don't need to like metal to come here though, the drinks alone are worth the visit.

Friendly owner, excellent service, good music and on a quiet night happy to help you learn more about the beers and music. Try them! Food here is bar snacks only but you're welcome to bring your own. There's a wide range of guest beers and I was surprised that the tastings took me to one I enjoyed because beer isn't usually my thing.

Had a great time here over the weekend. Staff are attentive and the atmosphere was awesome. One of the better pubs around the area I'd say. Would definitely visit here again.

My favourite rock and metal pub in Bristol, music is always on point. Great selection of draught beers and spirits, plenty space for sitting, have live music venue upstairs. The bar staff is always friendly and helpful and sometimes when it’s quiet you can request a specific rock or metal band to be played which in my opinion is awesome. I have been here so many times with friends, soli, with my BF and we always meet some cool people here. The prices are like in most of Bristol pubs not too low and not too high. And the place has very stylish design and it’s a place where you can forget all the worries in life. Love the place!
