About This Pub
You know, I've been having a think about The Greedy Duck, and it's got that proper cosy pub feel that makes you want to settle in for a chat and a pint. The staff are dead welcoming, and if you're lucky with the weather, the outdoor seating by the lake is just brilliant for soaking up the scenery. Some dishes really shine, like when the meat comes out spot on in their roasts. But honestly, it's not all smooth sailing – from what I've seen, the kitchen can get a bit overwhelmed, especially on Sundays, leading to long waits even if it's not heaving. There've been tales of burnt bits on the plates or running out of options, and a few folks have had dodgy experiences with reservations not going to plan. Still, with its solid overall vibe, I'd say it's worth popping by if you're nearby, just keep expectations in check and maybe go midweek for a calmer visit.

I just want to say that after our meal I found out there was only one Chef on shift so I imagine it was pretty hectic for them in the kitchen.
Just vanilla really. Polite staff. Sat for just under an hour before the roast arrived. Not that busy inside. Yorkies burnt. Meat Was quite nice. Mash was pretty bad tbh. Pigs in blankets where great.
As a pub, lovely spot, beautiful garden and view.
This is in response from the manager’s replies to Gurmin Kaur. His reply contains numerous mistruths.
We did not arrive late for the 4:30 reservation and you can even check your own cameras. One member of our party did arrive at 5pm, but we had ordered the starters and mains before he even arrived, meaning that we still did not receive our mains after one hour and a half after ordering (at 6:30pm when we left).
The waitresses did tell us the chef’s choice of cooking order is dependent on their preference and not the order that guests order. You mention that parties that arrived after us received their food earlier because they only had a party of 2, rather than 4 and did not order starters. However, we ordered the mains at the same time as our starters at 5pm. This is also quite a ridiculous system that food comes out in order of party size, rather than time of order. Does that mean a party of 6 would have their food delayed even more than us with a party of 4? Finally, the waitress told us we could take the food home to pack away. This is quite insulting considering we came to enjoy a Sunday lunch in person, not to eat at home.
Absolutely horrendous!
We went in for sunday lunch and the food was still being prepared 2 hours after we sat down. We were told there was one chef and was preparing food not based on reservation times ; instead on what he preferred to cook first. Meanwhile every other table reserved after us got their sunday lunch, exactly the same as we ordered. But they preferred to serve all the tables but us.
We decided to leave without any food after 2 hours as they were still preparing. The staff had nothing to say, not even an apology. We feel we were treated unfairly and the staff had no reasonable response.
We asked for the manager who did not come out to clarify only the senior most person who again didnt know why other table were being served before us other than saying it was staffing issues. Staffing issues only for one table?
We found the Greedy Duck on trip advisor so decided to give it a try. We popped in today (Friday) for lunch. The place looks very lovely in and out and the staff member on the bar was very friendly and helpful. We sat in a booth area opposite the kitchen. At first glance, the menu had lots to choose from - my husband and I both chose the CLUB sandwich. There was no description under the title of the sandwich but from my understanding it means Chicken, Lettuce under Bacon and is usually served with mayonnaise - I don’t like lettuce so I asked the server for no salad on mine. However, when the sandwiches arrived there was melted cheese on them which I wasn’t aware came on the sandwich and would have preferred without (would have asked for without if I had known), despite this, the sandwiches were very nice. We did have a look at the dessert menu but decided against one as we were full.
I have 2 suggestions for the Greedy Duck: 1) better descriptions of the meals on the menu please. 2) staffing! The young man behind the bar was lovely BUT he needed a second pair of hands - he was bar tending, tidying, making coffees, taking food orders and running meals all alone. This meant that when the chef rang the bell to say that there was food to be taken, it sat there for a little longer than I would have liked as he was busy serving someone at the bar. This is in no way a complaint about the service, but more of a friendly suggestion to staff more efficiently. We shall be returning as there were a few other items on the menu that caught our eye.
Not sure what to say about this place really. Staff were very friendly. The place was clean and tidy. And the outdoor seating with a view of the lake etc was very nice. They did however run out of a number of menu items on a fairly normal weeknight. And when my grilled chicken burger arrived. The taste of charred and burnt chicken was the only thing I could taste. I'll normally eat anything, but I had to resort to cutting the burnt bits off, to improve the taste. The fries were a little salty but OK and salad was nice. My friend ordered the belly pork. And you'd think that should have had the same treatment as my burger. But it was hardly touched by heat. It was cooked, but with very little evidence of heat. Same applied to the black pudding slice. The prices were not cheap either, so I was definitely expecting a better meal.
