About This Pub

Ah, The Great Eastern – it's one of those classic pubs that really captures the heart of Belfast, isn't it? I have to say, what stands out most is how the staff and the crowd make you feel like you're part of the gang right away; it's all about that genuine, welcoming spirit that gets you chatting and laughing in no time. The pints are a steal, and if you're lucky with the weather, their beer garden is an absolute delight with DJs spinning tunes that turn any gathering into a proper knees-up. On the downside, though, I've come across a few stories about them hiking up prices for outsiders, which doesn't sit right, and there are mentions of some dodgy goings-on that could spoil the fun. All in all, it's a solid spot for some authentic craic if you're up for it, but it's worth going in with your eyes open to get the full picture.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff and locals are incredibly welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • Pints are reasonably priced, which is brilliant for a casual night out without emptying your wallet.
  • There's a lively atmosphere with fun events like DJ nights and a lovely beer garden that's perfect for a sunny afternoon.
Cons
  • Some folks have mentioned overcharging if you're not a local, which can leave a bit of a sour taste.
  • There are occasional reports of unfriendly attitudes from staff, especially towards newcomers.
  • A few reviews point to rough elements around the place, like issues in the toilets, that might make you think twice about visiting.

Pretty cool blue collar bar. Local hang out. Pints are cheap and you can find some interesting conversation.

Great bar. The bar lady was nice. And this is coming from a devout Catholic, I was treated like anyone else! The men in there are a bit rough, but I'm rough too, I just look pretty. But service is excellent.

Great day and nite in their lovely beer garden with their fun, great craic, good dj who was playing and singing away putting requests on for the customers.
