About This Pub

Ah, The Golden Lion in Fulham – it's one of those classic London pubs that really knows how to make you feel at home, isn't it? From what I've gathered, the staff are absolute gems, always ready with a smile and a chat, which sets the tone for a proper good time. The beer garden stands out as a favourite; it's huge and just basks in the sun, making it ideal for a lazy weekend or catching up with friends over a few rounds. Plus, the value is spot on – you can grab a solid meal and drinks without emptying your wallet, which is a win in this city. It's especially buzzing during sports events, where the energy lifts your spirits and the conversations flow effortlessly. But, to keep it real, there are a few niggles; some have had run-ins with overly strict ID policies that can sour the mood, and the food doesn't always deliver – think dodgy sausages or underwhelming plates that might leave you peckish. Still, with its high overall rating and that warm, community feel, it's a solid choice for anyone after a decent pint and a laugh, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
  • The beer garden is massive and a real sun trap, perfect for a relaxed afternoon with a pint in hand.
  • It's excellent value for money, with cheap drinks and hearty meals that won't break the bank in London.
  • The atmosphere is buzzing, especially during live sports or matchdays, where the banter flows as freely as the ale.
  • The pub offers a great spot for socialising, with plenty of seating and a cosy vibe that keeps you coming back.
Cons
  • There can be strict ID checks that might lead to unpleasant encounters, potentially ruining an otherwise good night.
  • Food quality isn't always consistent, with some dishes falling short and leaving you disappointed.
  • Service can occasionally be off, as a few folks have mentioned experiences that didn't quite hit the mark.

Attended the pub for a mates birthday. The manager seemed to have a problem that one of the guys didn’t have a physical ID, although over 25. Digital ID offered, as that’s the ONLY ID we have in Australia (other than a passport) but were met with unpleasantries. Unfortunately this absolutely ruined our experience at the pub and will not be attending again. Would not recommend due to the attitude of the manager.

Brilliant pub - great on a Fulham matchday. Got a calamari starter, massive burger and fries, a pint of lemonade and a chocolate brownie, all for under £30! Unbelievably good in 2025 in SW6. Excellent value - one thing I would say is you NEED Fulham FC memorabilia up - can I donate a flag for the pub to put up on matchdays? It'll probably attract more customers

Oh dear. Ordered bangers and mash and if I wasn't eating heated up left over sausages, mash AND peas I'd be so shocked I'd eat my shoes. I left food on my plate despite being very hungry. (Edit: I brought up my dinner after getting back to the hotel) My partner had a burger and chips. Chips were freshly made and burger was tasty. Nice staff but left hungry.

It has just had an extensive makeover (March 2019). I was worried it would take away the character of the place, but it doesn’t seem to have done that at all. It’s provided a lot more seating outside a lot of it under cover. Some booths at the end of the garden, lots of TV monitors around by the booth like (don’t know the term) tables. I was also worried prices may have increased, I’m not sure if they have or haven’t, but that in itself tells me that if they have, it’s certainly not significant enough for me to have noticed. I do think they are very reasonable compared to other places. My only gripe is the number or people and that it’s hard to get served on match day. Probably not much that can be done about that... they do stop letting people in when it gets too full. It’s easier to get served at the barbecue grill outside, that was quick, but it would be handy if they did a couple of soft drink options there and not just beer, maybe even just tins or bottles of coke. Reasonably priced, good place to drink before football, although it can get very crowded making it hard to get served. Often have a burger grill going outside. I’ve been told (yesterday) that the burger was £4 and was very good with lots of bacon in it. Good pub for home football fans, although the pub is small, there is big beer garden.
