About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Generous Briton – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Loughborough. I've heard from folks that the beer selection is brilliant, with pints of Bass and other ales that go down a treat, and the atmosphere is spot on for a relaxed evening, especially if you're into pool, darts, or catching the footie or rugby on the screens. The outdoor patio is a nice touch too, with heat lamps making it cosy even on chillier nights, and it's handy that you can pop in some takeaway to enjoy with your drink. The staff often get a thumbs up for being friendly and chatty, which really adds to the welcoming feel, especially after that refurb a while back that spruce it up nicely. But, fair's fair, it's not all roses – there was that one off-putting experience with a door person being a bit short-tempered at closing time, and honestly, the food situation is a bit lacking, with only crisps on offer, so you might need to plan ahead if you're peckish. Overall, it's a solid spot for a pint and a laugh, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just keep an eye out for those quieter moments to avoid any hassle.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is spot on, with a great range of ales and lagers that really hit the spot for a proper pint.
  • It's got a lively atmosphere, especially with pool, darts, and sports screenings on the telly – perfect for a fun night out.
  • The staff are generally friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • There's a neat outdoor patio with heat lamps, ideal for enjoying a drink al fresco, and you can even bring in takeaway food to make it your own.
  • After the refurb, the place looks fantastic – it's clean, cosy, and has that classic pub charm that's hard to beat.
Cons
  • Some staff can be a bit rude, like the door person in one instance, which might put a dampener on your evening if you're not quick enough at closing time.
  • Food options are pretty limited, just crisps really, so if you're after a proper meal, you'll have to bring your own or head elsewhere.
  • It can get a tad hectic during busy times, and there might be issues with last orders if things wrap up abruptly.

DOOR MAN WAS SO RUDE Had about 2 sips left at 23:05, got a drink during final call and the group before us only just stood up to leave and he felt the need to say ‘can you hurry up, i wanna go home’ to his friends at the bar while staring us down. As if i didnt have 2 SIPS left!! Was almost done and going to leave straight away! Was just rude and unnecessary, I didnt do it on purpose!!! I always hate to be the one to stay late and didn’t even realise, otherwise we wouldve left! Could’ve spoke to us nicely rather than chatting shit to ur friends! I used to work in hospitality, i know what its like but it just felt so unnecessary making comments to your friends about us when we can hear! Just go somewhere else, Griff, paget arms, spoons, anywhere else!!

Very nice since the refurb a few years back. Can be lively. Good ales/laggers. Pool and darts. Neat patio. They show football and rugby and usually allow takeaway food eg from Plan Buritto.

First time in this joint for a good decade or so. Looks wonderful, fab selection of tipples and a splendid manager. If I still lived over that side of town, 'twould be my local! Give it a spin! 👌🍻

There's no food sold (besides crisps) but you can bring your own and eat it in the outside area which is covered and has heat lamps and screens to view sports. Otherwise there's a pool table and bar staff with good attitudes.
