About This Pub
Ah, The Gateshead Arms, it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its mix of history and modern flair. Tucked away in the heart of Low Fell, it's got this character-packed vibe from its 180-year past, now spruced up with a stylish indoor lounge and that fabulous outdoor Rum Shack for a bit of tropical fun. I love how they've got something for every occasion, whether it's sinking a craft ale while watching the match on those massive screens or enjoying a quiz night with a cracking jackpot game. The drink selection is spot on too – loads of gins, cocktails, and even thoughtful non-alcoholic choices, all served by staff who are genuinely warm and attentive, just like in those glowing reviews. It's earned a solid 4.3 rating, and from what folks have said, it's all about that spacious layout and welcoming feel that makes it perfect for everything from a quick after-work pint to a bigger gathering. But, on the downside, the hours do seem a bit all over the place, so you might end up disappointed if you rock up too early or late. And while the prices are fair for what you get, they can add up if you're not careful, especially with the food and drinks on offer. All in all, it's a lovely spot for a good laugh with friends, but worth keeping those little niggles in mind for the best experience.
Pros and Cons

Fantastic selection of drinks, from craft ales and signature cocktails to low and no-alcohol options, making it easy to find something for everyone.

-
The outdoor Rum Shack is a real gem, especially in summer – that Caribbean theme and lively terrace add a fun twist to a night out.

Loads of events like quiz nights and live sports on big screens, plus sharing boards and a rich history that give it a proper community feel.
Cons
-
The operating hours can be a bit confusing with varying times listed, so you might need to double-check before heading out.
-
Not many recent reviews, which makes me wonder if it's not quite as buzzing lately, even though the overall rating is solid.
-
With moderate prices, it could get a tad pricey for a full evening, especially if you're splashing out on cocktails or food.

This is a great pub! There is a very good selection of drinks and a welcoming atmosphere, plenty of space and seats, with an open area and some comfy booths. It's a must-visit if you're heading to Low Fell.
We recently had my father's after-funeral reception here and every effort was made to make the day special. The manager arranged for a photograph slide show of pictures of our Dad to be shown on a TV in the area where we were sitting. Food was excellent, all of the staff were helpful and sympathetic. All of the efforts the staff went to were greatly appreciated by our family. Thank you.
