About This Pub
Ah, The Bank Restaurant & Bar – it's one of those places that feels like a proper hidden gem in Gateshead, where you can pop in for some seriously tasty grub and a pint without the fuss. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food really steals the show; people are going on about how brilliant the flavours are, whether it's the tapas that's apparently 'unreal' or a classic like the hand-battered cod that leaves you wanting more. And the staff? They're spot on, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to that relaxed, welcoming feel – ideal for a laid-back evening with friends. On the flip side, though, it's not perfect; the building's got a fair few steps and steep stairs, so it might not be the easiest if you're with little ones in a pushchair or have mobility concerns. Plus, with closures on Mondays and Tuesdays, you'll need to plan around that. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out if you're after decent value and a bit of decadence on your doorstep, but it's worth weighing up those niggles for a balanced visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is absolutely spot on – think delicious, flavourful dishes with generous portions, like that hand-battered cod or unreal tapas that folks rave about.
-
The staff are a real highlight; they're friendly, attentive, and genuinely seem to enjoy what they're doing, making for a welcoming atmosphere.
-
It's great value for money, with meals that pack a punch without breaking the bank – a three-course option for around £21 sounds like a winner.
-
The vibe is calm and enjoyable, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates over good drinks and company.
Cons
-
Accessibility can be a bit of a hassle with lots of steps and steep stairs, which might not suit everyone, especially if you're navigating with a pushchair or wheelchair.
-
They're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so it's not ideal if you're planning a mid-week outing.

Food was lovely.
Staff were good.
The access with pushchairs is not very good. Likewise probably for wheelchairs.
Lots of steps up and steep stairs inside.
First time having food and drinks here and it was amazing. Good food and you can tell the staff wanted to be there and provide a good service.
