About This Pub

Ah, The Furze Wren, it's one of those dependable Wetherspoon pubs that you can always count on for a solid evening out without spending a fortune. I've heard from mates that the food's a real winner – think hearty breakfasts, yummy pizzas, and even some decent veggie options, all at prices that make you wonder how they do it. The vibe is just right too; it's bright and airy, with cosy booths that make you feel right at home, and the staff are always on the ball, especially with that app ordering system that keeps everything ticking along nicely. It's smack in the middle of the shopping centre, so it's ideal if you're out and about. On the flip side, though, some folks have mentioned they've slimmed down the menu a bit, which is a shame if you're after more variety, like those vegan burgers that used to be a highlight but now feel a tad underwhelming. And every now and then, you might get a dish that's not quite perfect, like tomatoes that look a mess or the place getting a bit too hectic. All in all, it's a friendly local gem with more ups than downs, so if you're in Bexleyheath, I'd say give it a go – you might just find your new favourite spot for a relaxed chat over a drink.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food offers great value for money, with affordable options like tasty breakfasts, pizzas, and burgers that hit the spot without breaking the bank.
  • The atmosphere is lovely – it's light, airy, and cosy, making it a welcoming spot for a casual catch-up or a relaxed meal.
  • Service is quick and friendly, especially with the handy app for ordering, which keeps things efficient even when it gets busy.
  • It's conveniently located in the Bexleyheath Shopping Centre, perfect for a pit stop after shopping, and the pub stays open late most days.
Cons
  • Some menu changes have disappointed folks, like the reduced vegan options, leaving choices feeling a bit limited and basic.
  • A few food items don't quite hit the mark, such as overcooked tomatoes that end up charred on top but cold inside.
  • It can get crowded at times, and while the service is fast, you might notice minor upkeep issues, like damaged doors in the toilets.

They changed their menu! Before you had several Vegan burger options, the "Fiesta" one has disappeared from the menu, now you have only 1 very simple, plant patty with garlic sauce?? There no option for onions rings, egg, lettuce, only a supplementary patty!! Been very disappointed, and when choosing to have the option with drink, the page takes you to payment before you choose the drink so you have to go back at the menu and choose it separately when before the menu took you directly to it before paying. Is it because a mistake in programming the new menu or is it a "new" thing? Another point that I was not used before, the noise by other customers was quite a bit annoying, we were quite far from that party at the bottom part of the floor and I was not able to hear my friend talking to me through a small table not far from the toilet, you will have to admit the noise was rather loud with the distance separating the two tables!!!

This is one of two Wetherspoon's in Bexleyheath & probably the nicer one in my opinion. We had the Freedom breakfast & a cup of tea. Good value & the tea was lovely. I don't like how the tomatoes are cooked. The top is charcoal black but the rest is cold. Pub itself is nice. Light, airey, quiet and on one level with lots of space between tables. Food came out quickly and staff were friendly. Would definitely come back again.

Went for a date on a Wednesday night. The pub is huge. It wasn’t packed. We sat in a booth (love those) and ordered via the app from their 3 snacks for xxx (I don’t know how much it was). We ordered grilled halloumi, spicy meat feast pizza and loaded chips. It was all very good. The pizza was incredibly tasty. This is one of the better ‘spoons for food. We also had a bottle of white wine and beers. A bottle of wine costs around the same as two small glasses of wine in a London pub. Always good value. The staff were quick and responsive.

As a local Furze Wren has had a reputation for decades for good food and it still has it. Order through the app or at the bar. We are still exploring the food menu so cannot comment on everything. This week we had the pub classic scampi+chips and the ramen with buttermilk friend chicken. The noodle was quite good, not as good as a Japanese restaurant but pretty decent. Equally the scampi tasted quite nice and buttery, not as good as the cod+chips so I’ll likely order that again next time. Apologies for the photos I was happily engorged on the scampi before I realised.

Come here for cheap prices and good food. It's a cozy place clearly popular with the locals. It can get busy, but the service is always fast and kind. Ordering is done through the app. The toilets are clean, although some doors are damaged. Overall, we were happy after having dinner here, while not overpaying it.
