About This Pub

Ah, The Drapers Arms – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local gem in Islington, where you can pop in for a cracking Sunday roast or a cheeky midweek meal and leave feeling chuffed. From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the food really steals the show; folks are going on about how tender and flavoursome everything is, from the braised squid to the beef and chicken roasts, and that wine list is a winner for anyone who appreciates a good glass. The atmosphere is spot on too – it's warm, inviting, and even dog-friendly, so it's great if you're after a relaxed spot to unwind with mates. On the flip side, there was a little grumble about the gravy not being as thick or plentiful as some might like, but honestly, that hasn't stopped people from coming back for more. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone in North London looking for hearty grub and good vibes, though it might be worth checking if it's not too busy on your visit to really soak it all in.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think succulent Sunday roasts, like that seven-hour lamb shoulder that's got everyone raving, and other hearty dishes that leave you wanting more.
  • They've got a cracking wine list that's full of great options, perfect for pairing with your meal or just enjoying with friends.
  • The staff are so friendly and professional; it's like they're part of the gang, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's a cosy, homely spot with a classic vibe, plus it's dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out with your furry mate.
  • There's a lovely garden and a private dining room, ideal for a relaxed catch-up or a special occasion without the crowds.
Cons
  • One downside is that the gravy can be a bit thin for some tastes, like on that amazing lamb dish – it might not hit the mark if you prefer it thicker and more generous.

It’s been four days later and my friends and I keep texting each other the word ‘lamb’ as their 7 hour shoulder of lamb was to die for! Beyond succulent! Great Gibson martinis as apéritifs and devoured everything. My only quibble was that there wasn’t a great deal of gravy and I prefer it a bit thicker but this didn’t distract from one of the best roasts we’ve ever had. Stella work team!

The Sunday roast at The Drapers Arms is top-notch. The nduja and mussels are a great way to start, packed with flavor. Both the beef and chicken roasts are substantial and taste phenomenal—perfectly cooked with all the right trimmings. The ambience is classic and old-timey, making for a cozy meal. The service staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, adding to the experience. A huge selection of wines and beers rounds it out. Highly recommend!

We had a fantastic time celebrating our friend birthday! Very nice environment that allows owners of dog to enjoy time together. The service and staff were really helpful and professional. We had some delicious starters of anchovies, greens and the bone marrow followed by one of the best Sunday roast I ever had! Our lamb meat was tender and roasted to perfection with sone delicious sides, beautifully roasted potatoes and fantastic Yorkshire puddings! Not only food, but also a selection of wine, Champaign and desert was very joyful and satisfying. We went on Sunday evening and it was very atmospheric with local people. If you love Sunday roast that’s done to perfection, beautifully presented and expertly served with selection of tasty booze and sweets - this is your dreamy destination! Walking distance from Highbury and Islington. Cannot wait to be back there!!!
