About This Pub
Ah, the George & Dragon – it's one of those local gems in Stockport that just feels right for a casual catch-up over a drink or a bite. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food really shines; folks rave about the flavoursome dishes like the salt and pepper chicken or a hearty Sunday roast, and it's all at an affordable price that won't break the bank. The staff are absolute stars, always cheerful and helpful, which makes the place feel welcoming whether you're there with the family, your dog in tow, or just mates watching the footie. They've got a nice beer garden and loads of entertainment options, like live sports on the telly, so it's easy to while away an afternoon. On the flip side, it's not flawless – you might notice the odd minor slip-up, such as a missing side on your meal, and it can get a bit crowded when things are buzzing, which might mean hunting for a table. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.2, it's clear this spot does more right than wrong, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area for some good times and a balanced pub experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make you feel at home – like when they rearranged a table for someone with accessibility needs.
-
The food is spot on, with tasty options like Katsu curry and Sunday roasts that hit the spot, and it's all at a great price, around £13 for a meal and a drink.
-
It's super family-friendly and dog-friendly, so you can bring the whole gang, including your furry friends, and enjoy the beer garden or catch some live sport.
-
There's plenty of entertainment on offer, from watching the Women's Euros to playing pool, and you can even order straight to your table via an app for quick service.
Cons
-
Occasionally, little things slip through the cracks, like a missing salad garnish on a dish, which can be a bit disappointing even if it's not a big deal.
-
The outside might not look as inviting as the inside, so it could surprise you once you're in, but that's something to keep in mind if you're popping by.
-
It can get busy during events or with larger groups, which might make finding a seat a tad tricky at times.

Just been for lunch as a fairly regular customer and never really had much to grumble about. Had the salt and pepper chicken strips and the new shwarna chicken fries. Only issue is no salad garnish with the shwarna chicken as there should have been but hardly a deal breaker
I came in with my disabled father and they had a wake on with no accessible tables. The guy on the bar moved a table for us so that we could sit and have our lunch. The food was really nice amd the service was great
Visited today with my husband and a friend. Friend and I had the Katsu curry and my husband had a senior citizen meal The food was delicious and red hot when it arrived at the table. Staff were very pleasant and welcoming. We all agreed we would not only recommend but would return in the near future.
The food was nice I had Pulled mushroom Chilli with basmati & wild rice, smashed avocado & a herb garnish (Never had before, very nice) I would recommend 👍. My wife had the Sunday roast which she couldn’t finish as there was too much for her. For dessert I had the Eton Mess (well worth the price) my wife went with the Brantley Apple Crumble pie with custard. She enjoyed that too. I need to go back and try there award winning pies. It was busy with the football on. A bit too loud with the music playing out and a loud group of football fans but I would probably go back on a weekday visit.
The prices were good for the food.
