About This Pub
Ah, The Fat Butcher – what a gem it is for anyone fancying a bite and a bevvy in the Whitley Bay area. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the grub really steals the show; think juicy steaks that hit the spot every time, paired with tasty sides like chips and sauces that leave you wanting more. The outdoor garden feels like a proper hidden spot, ideal for chatting away with mates on a sunny evening, and when the staff are in top form, they're all smiles and efficiency, making you feel right at home. On the flip side, it's not without its downsides – service can be hit or miss, with some folks mentioning slower attention or the odd oversight, and the venue itself might come across as a bit chilly or not as spotless as you'd hope, especially with limited facilities. Still, with a solid 4.3 rating overall, it's clear this place has more going for it than not, so if you're up for some hearty food and a laid-back pint, I'd say give it a go, but maybe check the day for the best experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros

Drinks are reasonably priced with a good selection, and it's easy to find value in the menu options for a casual night out.
Cons
-
Service isn't always consistent; some visits might leave you waiting a bit or feeling overlooked, which can dampen the experience.
-
The space can feel a tad cold and unwelcoming at times, with issues like dirty seating that might put you off lingering too long.
-
Options can be limited on certain days, like Mondays, when not all food stalls are open, so you might not get the full range of choices.
-
Facilities are a bit basic, with only one toilet in the ladies' and some reports of it not being the tidiest, which could be a minor annoyance.

Our Ribeye's were cooked to perfection and the chips and even the pepper sauce were so very tasty. But it's the brilliant service with happy, smiley faces and being so attentive that is deserving of 5* and especially Azo (hope I've got that right) - very enjoyable and thank you all...
What a canny little find! Only found this yesterday despite cycling in the area for a few years and just happened to spot it. Lots of food options from the various stalls inside the garden, sadly not many opening a Monday. Good selection of drinks though, definitely be back!

Went for the tomahawk Tuesday, 4 of us all together. The location is really nice, easy to find and would be great on a summer's night.
The tomahawk steaks were some of the best steaks we have ever had. Would definitely recommend them.
The service wasn't the best. We were served at the kitchen by a young lad who didn't seem interested at all, wasn't very welcoming and while we were ordering was getting told off due to a problem with a previous order.
The food then took around 50 minutes with the place being rather quiet. One of the meals had the wrong sauce on it but was exchanged by the kitchen eventually.
If the service was improved this would be the place to go!
Cold big space with dirty sofas and only one toilet in the ladies locks. Drink is cheap and it's good to have a range of takeaway food but burgers were very salty. They do enormous pizzas which our party enjoyed.
Really nice time at the secret garden!
Covid secure, although some of the security did not wear masks. Two metres maintained and felt reasonably safe.
Bar and table service.
Street food available although only two carts there today.
Burger and chips were really nice from the place so felt happy with that!
Nice day! Thanks! Worth a visit!
