About This Pub

Ah, The Faltering Fullback – it's one of those places that just warms your heart the moment you step in. Tucked away near Finsbury Park, this family-run Irish pub has this incredible beer garden that's been hailed as one of the best in London; imagine winding paths, nooks and crannies, and that lush, ivy-covered feel that makes you forget you're in the city. The food's a real treat too – they've got authentic Thai dishes that hold their own against the classic pub fare, and from what I've heard from mates who've tried it, the green curry and pad Thai are absolute winners. The vibe inside is steeped in history, with cosy snugs and a big screen for catching the footie or live music sessions, which adds to that welcoming, community feel. On the flip side, it does get mobbed on popular nights or match days, so you might end up jostling for space, and while the outdoor areas are brilliant, the smoking in some spots can put a damper on things if you're sensitive to it. Plus, if you're after a bite, you'll need to time it right as the kitchen isn't open all hours. All in all, it's a cracking spot for a proper pub experience – I'd say pop in for a pint and see for yourself; you won't be disappointed, but do go with realistic expectations for the crowds.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer garden is an absolute gem – it's multi-level, ivy-clad, and feels like a hidden paradise, perfect for enjoying a pint on a sunny day.
  • They've got a fantastic mix of traditional Irish vibes with a Thai twist on the menu; the food is surprisingly delicious and generous in portions.
  • The atmosphere is spot on, with live music, sports screenings on a big telly, and events that make it feel lively without being overwhelming.
  • The staff are brilliant, always going the extra mile to make you feel welcome, whether it's sorting out a match or accommodating groups.
Cons
  • It can get pretty packed, especially in the beer garden, so you might have to queue or struggle to find a spot on busier days.
  • Some of the outdoor areas allow smoking, which isn't ideal if you're after a completely fresh-air experience.
  • The food service is only on at certain times, like evenings during the week, so it's worth checking ahead if you're peckish.

An incredible North London pub, steeped in history and beautiful inside. There are several areas to explore in the pub, Including a few snugs and a larger space with a big screen too. The real crowd-puller is of course the outside terrace with multiple levels of seating. It gets crowded so you may need to wait, but once you've got a table it's going to be a great afternoon.

Fabulous nutting room pib, with brilliant multi level outside area. Fabulous large tv screen in separate 'sport focused area.' We went at a quiet time and they put on a match pertinent to us with no fuss. Some outside levels should be non smoking.

Visited as my daughter was doing an Irish Dance Display for St Patrick’s Day. Amazing atmosphere and a real spit and sawdust kind of place. The manager and security staff went above and beyond to accommodate a group of children. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area and want some atmosphere.

Visited today just to see THAT beer garden and let me tell you, I've never seen something like that before. I would spend whole days there, enjoying weather, food and good chat. So many nooks and crannies, don't know how it looks like when game is played. They have massive area on the back with few TV's if you enjoy sports, or live music. Service was super fast, but I visited early afternoon, was one of the first customers. Main area is super cosy, feels old in the best way possible. Good selections of beers on tap, they have 0% as well. Can't described how impressed I'm with this establishment, one of kind pub.

Had only ever come here for drinks but after hearing so many good things about the food here, I had to try it! It was surprisingly good and the portions were great too. We ordered the prawn pad Thai (a good benchmark), and green curry. Both were really scrumptious but I have to say, the curry was my favourite!!! It was super creamy and had a really nice kick to it.
