About This Pub

Oh, you know, The Express Tavern is one of those hidden gems that just feels like a second home, tucked away near Kew Bridge with its rich history as an old coaching inn. I love how they've got this tranquil garden that's just perfect for whiling away an afternoon, especially if you're popping in before or after a match at Brentford Stadium – the live sports on the screens really add to the buzz. The drinks are spot on, with a fantastic range of beers and affordable options that hit the mark every time, and the food's generally a treat, like those daily specials that offer great bang for your buck. That said, while the staff are an absolute joy and make everything feel so welcoming, some of the grub, like the steaks, isn't quite up to gourmet standards, so it might not wow you if you're expecting something fancy. And just a quick note, it's all about ordering at the bar, which is standard for these places but could feel a tad unfamiliar if you're not in the know. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back pint and a chat, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go for that authentic pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The garden is an absolute delight, perfect for soaking up the sun on a summer evening and feeling right at home.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers, wines, and spirits, with well-kept ales that earned them a CAMRA award.
  • It's a brilliant spot for football fans, especially near Brentford Stadium, with live sports on the telly and a lively atmosphere.
  • The food is tasty and great value, like that steak special or a sarnie with a drink for just £6.50 – ideal for a casual bite.
  • The staff are genuinely warm and welcoming, making you feel like you're chatting with old mates from the get-go.
Cons
  • Some dishes, like the steaks, might not be perfectly tender, so it could fall a bit short if you're after something really posh.
  • The self-service at the bar is the norm here, which is fine once you know, but it might catch newcomers off guard if they're used to table service.

Wow! What a pub! A proper pub pub. Absolutely fantastic. Went for the Fulham game against Brentford. Has loads of choice for drinks. A middle conservatory for eating/drinking with tvs showing live footy and a garden with plenty of room for a summers evening.

Came here for lunch (after reading another review) after visiting London Museum of Water and Steam (also recommend that if you’re in the area). A group of 8 with kids and they were exceptionally lovely and great value (sarnie and a drink for £6.50!!!) and delicious food. They even serve before midday which is great for hungry young tummies. You won’t regret coming here. They also had a great selection of beers and real ales!

First time in London, so I figured trying out a local pub/restaurant was ideal. I’ve travelled quite a bit and always get served at my table by a server, but seems like in London you just ask for your meal and drink at the bar, pay for it and choose a table. I know the Brits aren’t used to tipping which is also kinda strange for me. But I had a great meal, at a GREAT price because I came in before 5pm and was still able to get their lunch special. The chicken sandwich, soup and coke was only £6.50, what a deal? Visit this place if you’re in the area!

This place was hoppin'! Lots of options for seating. We were surprised to see daily specials, and just happened to be a Wednesday, steak special night. We each ordered a different steak. They weren't 5 star tender, but combined with all the offerings, sauces; I'd give 4.5. The value well worth it. The pub pup definitely was comfortable with all the activity! We will head back for sure
