About This Pub
Ah, The Excelsior – it's one of those pubs in Blackpool that just draws you in with its fresh, modern vibe, tucked away on Lytham Road. From what I've gathered chatting about places like this, it's got this warm, energetic feel where you can kick back with a pint and catch up with mates, especially if you're into sports or a bit of karaoke to liven things up. The drinks are fairly priced, and there's always something on offer, like watching the big games on a large screen or joining in with the darts or snooker leagues – it's clear folks love the community spirit here. On the flip side, the online side of things feels a touch neglected, with an old website that doesn't quite keep up, and the opening times can be a bit muddled, so it's worth planning ahead. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a good night; you'd probably end up staying longer than planned, just like those who raved about the DJ turning their pub crawl into a full evening. If you're after a place that's friendly without being too fancy, give it a try – you might just find your new local haunt.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing, with a lively vibe that's perfect for a fun night out, especially with the DJ and karaoke sessions that keep things entertaining.
-
Drinks are reasonably priced, and they've got a great selection including beers, lagers, and even deals like 2-for-1 cocktails, making it easy on the wallet.
-
It's spotlessly clean throughout, with wheelchair access at the front, so everyone can feel welcome and comfortable.
-
A fantastic spot for sports fans, with Sky Sports on a large screen, plus activities like snooker, pool, darts, and even a football team – plenty to get involved in.
-
The staff come across as friendly and welcoming, creating that homely pub feel where you can relax and enjoy yourself.
Cons
-
The website seems a bit outdated, with content from years back, which might make it tricky to get the latest info before heading over.
-
Operating hours can look a tad confusing from what's listed, so you might want to double-check to avoid any surprises.
-
While it's generally a solid spot, not every visit might hit the mark, as one or two folks have mentioned it's just 'nice' without it being standout extraordinary.

Stopped here on our pub crawl, however it ended here, the DJ was so good that we had at least 3 drinks here. Good atmosphere, great drinks and a demon dog.
Got so drunk we did karaoke!
Would come here again
Supporting our team vs Blackpool FC ,we decided as a group of us to turn it into a weekend away ,Friday night we needed somewhere close by to our hotel to watch an international game ,The Excelsior was recommended & what a great experience we had ,the pub has plenty of beers lagers & ciders to choice from & at £3.60 for a pint of lager comes in cheaper than my local back home
Lovely people very friendly & chatty even the Landlady & Landlord but the star of the show has to be the Queen of Shots Lou The Manageress
Now I am not one for shots I like the odd top shelf tipple but some of the younger members of our group fancied a few so we started buying some of the shot offers available ranging from Haggis Bombs to Baby Guinness i did feel very light headed the following day !!
We stay until virtually kicking out time & too everyone's amazement Lou gave us all a hug & thanked us for spending the evening in there ,in all the years of visiting bars all around the UK that personal touch is something I have never experienced before !
We returned on Saturday evening too Karaoke was on ,my friend stepping up to sing twice ,food was laid out around the pub and offered around the customers (having already eaten I declined but there was plenty to go around ,The Excelsior had a function going on upstairs
Had a cracking laugh watching some lad celebrate his 21st with a regular female customer giving him a funny personal dance while singing on the karaoke to Patricia The Stripper
Once again as it come close to closing time Lou The Manageress thanked us for coming with a goodbye hug & wishes
The location of the pub is on Lytham Road a couple of minutes away from Blackpool FC on Bloomfield Road 10/15 mins from Central Pier
I love a pub away from all the hustle & bustle of all the attractions and The Excelsior is a perfect place for that ,made to feel welcome & everyone very sociable if you want somewhere to enjoy a drink of an evening then this is the place to go !!
