About This Pub

Ah, The Eagle – what a lovely spot it is, tucked away in Castleford. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, this place really shines with its welcoming vibe; the landlord and lady, along with the bar staff, go out of their way to make everyone feel at ease, which is just what you want on a night out with mates. It's especially great for sports enthusiasts, as it's a welcoming mix for football and rugby crowds, and they've done a smashing job refreshing the place – it's clean, inviting, and full of that proper pub charm. The beers are spot on, nice and cold, and it's all at a budget-friendly price, so you won't break the bank. On the downside, though, it's a shame there's no website or online info to speak of, which might leave you scratching your head if you're not local and want to check it out first. And while it's wonderfully unpretentious, if you're in the mood for something a bit more polished or with extra bells and whistles, it might feel a tad basic. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening – I'd say give it a go if you're nearby, as the positive vibes from regulars really make it stand out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff and owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere, perfect for mixing with fellow sports fans, whether you're into football or rugby.
  • They serve up cold beers and a good pint, which always hits the spot after a long day.
  • The pub has been smartly redecorated and spruced up, turning it into a proper cosy spot that's a cut above what it used to be.
Cons
  • Without a website or much online presence, it might be a bit tricky for newcomers to find out more about it before heading over.
  • As an inexpensive option, it's more of a straightforward local haunt rather than somewhere with fancy extras, so if you're after something upscale, it might not quite fit the bill.

Top pub with a great atmosphere, really friendly punters and cracking management and bar staff. A great place for both football and rugby fans to mix. We travel from York to drink here before and after Castleford Tigers games, wish it was nearer to home, it would defo be our local!
