About This Pub

Ah, the Duke of York in Billericay – what a gem of a pub it is! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks absolutely rave about the food; think hearty pub classics with a modern twist, like bang bang cauliflower or a proper vegan burger that's both tasty and satisfying. The service stands out too – it's that warm, attentive kind that makes you feel right at home, whether you're there for a family dinner or a mid-morning coffee chat. They've got this lovely outdoor area with a heated marquee, which is brilliant for enjoying a drink in the fresh air, rain or shine, and the online ordering system is a real winner for hassle-free visits. On the flip side, it does get quite busy at times, so you might have to navigate a bit of a crowd if you're not there early, and the prices are moderate, which could add up if you're not careful. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a good laugh, great grub, and that community feel, but it's worth keeping in mind if you prefer somewhere a bit more low-key.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is absolutely brilliant – fresh, seasonal dishes made from scratch that leave you wanting more, like those tasty Sunday roasts and vegan options.
  • Service is top-notch; the staff are always welcoming and polite, making it a lovely spot for a family meal or a casual catch-up with mates.
  • It's got a great atmosphere, with a stylish yet relaxed vibe, plus a beautiful garden and outdoor space perfect for al fresco dining on a sunny day.
  • Loads of fun events like live music, beer festivals, and weekly offers keep things lively, and the online ordering system makes it dead easy to get your drinks and food.
  • Family-friendly with a children's menu, so it's ideal for bringing the little ones along without any fuss.
Cons
  • It can get a bit crowded, especially during peak times like evenings or weekends, which might make it tricky to find a quiet spot.
  • With moderate prices, it might feel a tad on the pricey side if you're just popping in for a quick pint and not planning a full meal.
  • While it's great for families and groups, if you're after a really intimate or quiet evening, the buzz might not be everyone's cup of tea.

RECOMMEND FROM A CLOSE FAMILY MEMBER, two weeks later me the wife our seven children decided to dine out, arriving just before the evening rush , the wife was worried food was going to turn up @ scattered times , however to my delight, she was wrong, 10 out of ten for service & taste , IM HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU EAT HERE THE NEXT TIME YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WANT TO DINE OUT ,

Brilliant for a small group Breakfast meet up. Relaxing and nice calm atmosphere, especially after the school drop-offs. Casual time to unwind and chatter. A nid-morning meet-up with food and coffee/tea. Breakfast plates were tasty and nothing to fault here. Staff were welcoming and polite.

Really lovely food and service at Duke of York. I had the Bang Bang Cauliflower to start which had an excellent sauce on it and crunchy, fresh salad to accompany the cauliflower. For the main I had the vegan truffle burger. The burger was really tasty, had a weight to it but wasn't heavy. The homemade pickles added a nice tang to the burger while the fig jam provided a fruitness to the umami taste of the burger. The chips were crispy and delicious. Recommended choice for those wanting a plant-based/vegan option in Billericay in a local pub setting.

Surprised my partner with a family dinner here for his birthday, and am so glad I did. When we arrived, we were shown to our table that had ample space for our party of 2 adults and two children. We were offered children's menus. The children were happy to have options for starters, which they don't always get on a kids menu. We attended on Thursday, which was 241 steak and grill night. We were offered drinks. The children asked for orange juice with lemonade. When I asked the price, I heard the children's drink was £1.60. The drinks that arrived were huge. When we received the bill where we were charged £2.50 for each drink. My partner went for a raspberry rum and lemonade. I had a large merlot. We were both happy with our drinks. My partner had the prawn and crayfish cocktail. He thoroughly enjoyed it. The children went for garlic bread and spring rolls. The garlic bread was good quality with minced garlic, and the spring rolls looked perfectly crisp. Both dishes got the thumbs up. For mains, the children went for the fish gougons with chips and scampi and chips. Again, the food looked fresh and crispy. Both adults went for the mixed grill, which was incredibly tasty and more enjoyable, knowing we were only paying for one dish. Everything on the plate was flavoursome. We had to ask for extra nbq sauce for the ribs, but we both thoroughly enjoyed the dish. I ordered peppercorn sauce for the 4 oz steak, not realising it was an extra cost, but the gravy boat housed a very generous portion that was very tasty. For afters, Mr. picked the baked strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake. I went for the pineapple upside down cake. The cheesecake was phenomenal. The pineapple upside-down cake was not quite as tasty and looked more like a rum cake than the cake I used to get at school with custard. It was a nice cake. Would have liked the option of custard instead of ice cream, but it was a good desert. The cheesecake was next level. Service was pleasant. It was a little slow at times but it appeared only 2 staff were on the floor and the restaurant was quite busy. I asked for the bill and eventually had to go ask at the bar. I received an apology because the server forgot. We were overcharged for one of the children's starters, but it was quickly corrected. All in all, it was a lovely night out. The venue was nicely decorated and very clean. Staff were courteous. We will definitely return.
