About This Pub

Ah, The Quays in Basildon – it's one of those reliable spots that really pulls you in for a casual pint or a bite to eat. From the buzz I've picked up, the staff are the real stars; they're warm, quick on their feet, and go out of their way to make sure you're looked after, like that server Grace who got rave reviews for her top-notch service. The food's another winner – think hearty, fresh meals that hit the spot, especially with those wallet-friendly deals that make it easy to tuck in without worrying about the bill. It's got a lovely vibe too, with a cracking outside area that's ideal for soaking up the summer sun or cheering on the footie. Plus, being family-friendly with handy facilities like disabled access and free WiFi, it's versatile for all sorts of outings. On the flip side, though, it's not perfect – if you're rolling in with a big group, things can get a bit chaotic, with some delays and service slip-ups that leave you wanting more. And while the app for ordering is a nice idea, it doesn't always run smoothly, which might put a dampener on things. Overall, I'd say it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening; just keep expectations in check for busier times, and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – from what I've heard, they're super friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home with their warm service.
  • The food is spot on; hearty, tasty dishes at great prices, like those 'Tuck in for a tenner' deals that let you enjoy a proper meal without breaking the bank.
  • It's a family-friendly spot with nice facilities, including a great outside area perfect for summer drinks and watching the live sport on big screens.
  • The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, especially if you're into sports – they show all the major events, making it a fun place to catch up with mates.
Cons
  • Serving large groups can be a bit of a faff, as some folks have mentioned issues with delays and not quite meeting expectations when there's a big crowd.
  • Table arrangements might not always be ideal; one person noted an awkward setup for a party, which could make things a tad uncomfortable.
  • The app for ordering has its quirks – it's handy, but it didn't quite work smoothly for everyone, leading to a few frustrations here and there.

I visited your establishment yesterday with a group of 12 people. While we understand that serving a large group can present challenges, unfortunately our experience fell well below reasonable expectations, and I felt it important to share our feedback. Most of us placed our orders through the app, but due to technical issues, a couple of us had to order directly at the bar instead. That in itself wasn't a problem, however, the handling of our drinks order was disappointing. There was a significant delay in our drinks being delivered. When we asked a staff member about it, we were told that our drinks had already been given to us. This was simply not the case. We explained that the few drinks on our table had been brought over by those who ordered at the bar, not via the app. Despite this, the staff member continued to insist we had received the drinks and only brought them over reluctantly. To make matters worse, she removed two of the drinks she was delivering, so we still ended up short. Due to her dismissive attitude, we didn’t pursue it further, as it felt more trouble than it was worth. Unfortunately, she was not wearing a name badge, so we couldn't identify her to provide direct feedback. In addition to this, the food service was very unorganized. Eight out of twelve people received their food well in advance of the rest. By the time the last three meals arrived, the majority had already finished eating. While we appreciate that large groups can be challenging, we were not given any heads-up about delays, which would have at least helped us manage expectations. We chose your venue for what we hoped would be a relaxed and enjoyable group outing, but the combination of poor communication, inconsistent service, and dismissive staff left us quite disappointed. Which is a shame as the food was lovely.

Grace absolutely stole the show, providing sensational customer service and friendliness was totally on point. The service was extremely quick and the food was fresh and hot. Grace deserves to be promoted for this amazing experience where she focused on our experience ensuring we had everything we needed

I had the absolute pleasure of being served by Mel and Enola during my visit, and I can confidently say they made the entire experience exceptional. From the moment we were seated, they where warm, attentive, and incredibly professional. Mel was friendly demeanor and genuine smile added such a lovely energy to the atmosphere. Mel anticipated our needs without us having to ask, offered great recommendations, and checked in on us just the right amount—never intrusive, always thoughtful. It’s rare to come across someone who clearly takes such pride in their work and goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome and cared for. Thank you, mel, for your outstanding service—you’re a true gem and a credit to your team. I’ll definitely be returning, and I’ll be asking for you! Want it more casual or tailored to a specific restaurant or experience?

It was a surprise birthday party for me which was lovely. They reserved an L shaped table, which was awkward as my daughter had her back to several family members. I feel there was enough room to have a straight arrangement, which would have been a lot better. The use of an app to order did make it easier to divide up the costs. The food itself seemed to go down well. The only real gripe was that the plates were not cleared from the table before the deserts were brought out. I would go back again
