About This Pub
Ah, The Dog – it's one of those pubs that really hits the mark for me when you're in the mood for a proper traditional spot in Burton-on-Trent. The selection of cask ales is spot-on, with a full range from Black Country Ales and a few guests thrown in, all at prices that won't break the bank, making it a go-to for anyone who loves a good pint. The atmosphere is usually warm and inviting, with friendly staff and a vintage decor that includes dog-themed nods, which is brilliant if you're bringing your four-legged mate along. Plus, the food like that ham and salad comes out tasty and filling, and with easy parking just outside, it's hassle-free for a quick stop. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few tales of sour-tasting ales or the odd unwelcoming encounter, like not being able to use the facilities without ordering, which could spoil the fun if you're not careful. Overall, it's got that solid 4.6 rating for a reason, so I'd say give it a try – just keep an eye out for those little niggles to ensure you have a top-notch visit.

Comfortable traditional pub with carpet and tables. Friendly customers and bar staff. Dog friendly. Convenient, reasonably priced street parking just outside, just feed the meters with a pound coin or two for long stay. Good selection of beers and ales. Serves very filling and tasty ham and salad, and cheese and onion white bread rolls.
Ive moved here recently and I dont believe I've been in such a hostile pub. When I've drank in there most of the ales taste sour. When walking past and needing to use the toilets I was refused as I wasn't purchasing anything despite being there a day before putting my money in the till. Will not be visiting until they change the management. Absolute disgrace
You know what you’re getting from Black Country Ales pubs and this place does not disappoint. A huge range of cask ales at competitive prices make this a worthy regular entry into the Good Beer Guide.
This was a superb pub for drinking, with a vintage aesthetic throughout! The walls styling and counter mostly channel this, dogs incorporated into the theme is also interesting. I had a fresh pint of cider, sitting comfortably at a clean table!
Another excellent pub in Black Country Ales smallish pub chain. Was last in Burton in 2011 and don't recall visiting this pub then (or maybe wasn't under BCA tenure). One of the best traditional freehouses in Burton. Full BCA range of beers available plus a couple of guests and some keg. Had I not been on a pub crawl would have stayed longer. 👍 for bar staff operative LEAH (did I get the name right?) who coped admirably with an influx of our coachload plus no doubt others from the National Winter Ales Festival on the same day. Marking overall review down by 1 ⭐ as the ham and cheese cob wasn't the best - was a bap with processed ham - for reference point please contact the Windmill Inn in Rugby - another of your chain ❤. Overall, thoroughly recommended by Matty.
