About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Distillery in Derby's Cathedral Quarter, it really stands out as a great little hideaway for a fun night out. The drinks menu is fantastic – they've got Derby's largest collection of spirits, and the cocktails are fresh, innovative, and reasonably priced, which is always a win in my book. I love how they keep things traditional yet exciting, using some of the finest distilled products from around the world. The staff are an absolute delight; they're attentive and make sure everything runs smoothly, whether you're there for a casual drink or something more like a work do or private bash. From what I've heard and seen in the reviews, events like live music on Fridays really amp up the atmosphere, making it feel vibrant and full of energy. On the downside, a couple of people mentioned getting a bit of grief from the bouncers, which is a shame and could put a damper on things if you're not prepared. Also, if you're hoping for a hearty meal, you'll be out of luck most of the time since the kitchen's only firing up for private events – it's more of a drinks-focused venue, really. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after good company and cracking beverages, but just keep those potential niggles in mind for a smoother visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The cocktails are absolutely spot on – they've got a massive selection of spirits and some cracking speciality menus that make it easy to find your perfect drink.
-
The staff are lovely and really go the extra mile; they're friendly, accommodating, and make you feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a quick one or hosting a big event.
-
It's got a brilliant atmosphere, especially with live music and events like singers on Friday nights, which really get the place buzzing and make for a memorable night out.
-
Ideal for private hires and group gatherings; it's perfect for work socials or parties, with plenty of positive feedback on how well they handle these occasions.
Cons
-
There have been a few hiccups with the bouncers, like some folks nearly getting turned away, which could spoil the start of your evening.
-
Food options are a bit limited since the kitchen's only open for private parties, so if you're after a proper meal, you might need to head elsewhere or plan ahead.

Great venue in the centre of Derby, good cocktail menu & reasonably priced. Friday night was an amazing singer, creating a great atmosphere..👌👏
Thanks for hosting us on Friday for our work social. Nothing but positive feedback from the team, everyone had a great time. The staff were lovely and the food was top notch!
Popped in around 1-2 on Friday so place to myself but still perfect service and friendly staff. Quizzed about weekends during summer, was very promising and look forward to visiting again with friends.
We had our works Christmas do here up in the cocktail bar. The staff were amazing, nothing was too much and they accommodated our needs. The place was decorated lovely and the space was perfect. Bar was well stocked and the night was perfect thanks to the Distillery team
Very tasty cocktails and great music choice. Lovely building and a nice atmosphere. Good value. Only giving 3 stars as I nearly didn’t get let in by the bouncers (never had this problem before)
