About This Pub

Ah, The Devonshire – it's one of those Soho spots that always seems to buzz with energy, and I can see why it's got such solid ratings. From what I've gathered, it's got that classic pub charm down pat, with a warm, inviting space that's just right for sinking into a comfy seat with a pint. The food is where it really impresses, though; people are raving about the steaks cooked to perfection over a wood ember grill, and the fresh seafood like scallops and langoustines sounds absolutely mouthwatering. It's not just about the grub – the service comes across as friendly and efficient, making you feel right at home. On the flip side, I've heard a few grumbles about portions being a tad skimpy on some mains, and let's be honest, trying to nab a booking can feel like a game of chance, especially since the pub bit is walk-in only. Still, if you're up for a bit of spontaneity or don't mind planning ahead, it's a brilliant choice for a memorable night out. All in all, it's got that perfect mix of traditional pub vibes with a touch of upscale dining, and I'd say it's well worth a visit for anyone looking for quality without the pretence.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is just lovely – it's a classic London pub that's warm and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
  • The food really shines, especially the steaks and seafood; folks rave about the perfectly cooked Scottish beef and fresh langoustines, making it a top spot for a hearty meal.
  • They pour a cracking pint of Guinness, and the homemade bar snacks are spot on for a quick bite.
  • Service is generally brilliant, with staff being attentive and helpful, as shared in several glowing reviews.
  • It's got a great vibe overall, with high praise for the quality of ingredients and the excitement around their grill room upstairs.
Cons
  • Portions can be on the small side for some dishes, like the lamb hot pot, which might leave you wanting a bit more.
  • Booking can be a real faff; it's walk-in only for the pub, and getting a table in the restaurant takes persistence and planning.
  • Every now and then, you might get a tougher cut of meat, as one review mentioned with the skirt steak, which is a shame given the high standards.
  • The roof terrace is also walk-in only, so on a sunny day, you could end up queuing or missing out if it's busy.

Visited for Father's Day. Starters were prawn cocktail, scallops (superb!) and crab salad. For mains we had skirt steak (a bit tough!), 2 x rib-eye steak (nice, but had better) and lamb hot pot (very small portion!). The side dishes were delicious but portions rather small. The duck fat chips were delicious. Desert were sticky toffee pudding with ice cream (very nice) and grand marnia souffle (very good and something different). Overall a lovely evening highlighted by our friendly and very attentive waiter. Top marks for superb service.

Been wanting to come here for ten months (since I moved to London) saved my first Sunday roast for this!! It took many months of attempts of booking to finally get a table! Very excited!! The service when we entered was great, we were led upstairs to our table. We were the first ones seated in that level but we were put in the back corner of the room. The bread came out and it was great with the butter! People who arrived after us had their order taken first and their roasts also came out before us. The table next to us was seated half an hour after us and got their food first too. Anyway onto the food. The scallops were great and definitely a must order! The roast arrived and each of our cuts were inconsistent. Mine was thin and sloppy with a huge cut of fat whereas my partner (on the right side of me) had a thicker cut with less fat. I’m confused because I’ve seen videos and it’s from one giant roast? I’ll let it slide because I still enjoyed my meal. The sides were addictive and the gravy was delicious. Although everything tasted salty towards the end. The sticky toffee pudding is a must! Good end to the meal. Overall I still enjoyed it

A lots of places in London get this much hype and don’t deliver on the food. This place really exceeded my expectations. The quality of the Ingridients it’s something else. I am not big on red meats, but will remember the taste of that steak (cooked to perfection) for ever. So juicy, so tasty and the best I had in London for sure. I am more a seafood person and the scallops tried here were AMAZING, again sourced and cooked to perfection. The warm brioche bread to soak in the scallop sauce.. a real treat. Staff was adorable and the rooftop is perfect for a summer meal. I gave 5 stars, but would give 6 if possible :)

Managed to get a booking at the super popular Devonshire. Normally I’m a bit skeptical when a place gets this much hype, but have to say - it really delivers on the meat front. We had a selection of meats and every single one was banging. Perfectly cooked, great quality, full of flavour. Easily one of the better steak experiences I’ve had in London. Desserts were excellent too - tried the Chocolate Mousse and the Sticky Toffee Pudding, both well worth saving room for. Also had the famous Guinness. It was good, but to be honest, I couldn’t tell much of a difference compared to other solid Guinness pours around London. Service, pricing, and atmosphere were all spot on. Only downside is that it’s not pram-friendly at all - had to lug the pram up some narrow stairs, so worth knowing if you're going with a baby. Highly recommend if you can get a booking!

This place is known for doing the best Guinness in London, but having been here, this is the best place for steak. Never have I had such an amazing steak in my life, it was cooked over charcoal right in front of you which is just amazing! The service was brilliant, the food was superb, and the sticky toffee pudding was out of this world. The scallops were beautifully cooked as well with that vinegary taste which was lovely. You do also get bread and salted butter for the table, and it was very good. We had the Guinness Zero and that was like the ones you get in Dublin. Need to book in advance to get a table, though during the quieter hours of a weekday, you should be able to get a table.
