About This Pub

Ah, The Crown – it's one of those East End spots that just feels like a proper local favourite, you know? Tucked away opposite Victoria Park, it's got this charming, edgy atmosphere with beautifully restored features and balconies that make you feel like you're stepping into a storybook. I love how they've nailed the food side of things; the Sunday Roasts and burgers come highly recommended from what I've heard, with people going on about how tasty and comforting they are, perfect for a weekend wind-down. The staff are an absolute delight, always making sure everyone feels at home, and it's brilliant that they welcome dogs with open arms – adds a nice community touch. On the flip side, it's not flawless; a few have mentioned the odd dish falling short, like a roast that was a tad overcooked or portions that didn't quite satisfy, so it might vary depending on the day. Plus, it does get heaving at times, so planning ahead is key if you don't fancy queuing. All in all, it's a solid choice for a bite and a bevvy with friends, especially if you're in the area – I'd say give it a go for that unbeatable park view and the chance to enjoy some classic pub fare, but keep expectations realistic for the busier moments.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot-on, with standout dishes like the Sunday Roasts and smash burgers that folks rave about – it's proper hearty British pub grub that'll leave you satisfied.
  • The atmosphere is a real treat, with quirky original features, stunning balconies overlooking Victoria Park, and that Alice in Wonderland vibe upstairs that makes it feel like a hidden gem.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, always ready with a smile and even treats for your furry friends – it's a welcoming spot for a casual catch-up or special occasions.
  • Its location right by Victoria Park is brilliant, perfect for a post-walk pint or hosting parties and events in their private rooms.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, from craft beers and cocktails to wines, and it's dog-friendly, which adds to the relaxed, community feel.
Cons
  • Some meals might not always hit the mark, like the Sunday Roast that one person found a bit dry and skimpy on veggies, so it pays to check what's fresh that day.
  • It can get pretty busy, especially on weekends, and you might need to book ahead to snag a table without waiting around.
  • The opening hours wrap up fairly early in the evening, which could be a downer if you're hoping for a late-night session.

One of my favourite pubs in London. The terrace they have upstairs with the black and white tiles always reminds me of something from Alice in Wonderland. I have celebrated a birthday there and had a blast. It's always a lovely place to end on a pub pint after some store bought ones for the park. Would definitely be coming back! Might even look at it for another celebration 🎊.

Very nice place to have a Sunday Roast. Staff very friendly and the food was really good. I took my parents here to try the Sunday Roast and we loved it, one of our best Sunday Roast in London. We will come back for sure.

I’ve enjoyed burgers from Arizona to Zagreb but none have been finer than the smash burger I just devoured at The Crown. Genuinely remarkable, and truthfully the tastiest I’ve tried. Anywhere. The whole pub is stunning, with lovingly restored original features and even a small upstairs balcony. Best of all, the staff: friendly, professional, efficient and polite - well done to the lot of you. It is also dog friendly, has board games galore and serves up a sensational Sunday Roast. Very highly recommended.

The Crown, a standout in the Young’s pub portfolio near Victoria Park, is a true treasure. The staff are exceptionally accommodating, and while we’ve frequently been seated upstairs without a reservation thanks to the generous space, I would highly recommend securing a booking if you wish to enjoy the more atmospheric ground floor—it’s well worth the effort. This establishment excels in inclusivity, being both child-friendly, with high chairs readily available, and warmly welcoming to dogs, ensuring a convivial environment for all. The food is consistently delicious and arrives promptly; however, it’s wise to clarify with the staff whether your table offers full service or requires ordering at the bar. A quintessential local pub that continues to impress on every visit.

My friend and I visited a restaurant on a Sunday hoping to enjoy a good Sunday Roast. The atmosphere was lively and the restaurant was busy, which made us feel like we had chosen a popular spot. Fortunately, we were able to find a table and place our food order. We both ordered the Sunday Roast; I opted for pork belly, while my friend chose beef. While my pork belly was crispy and delicious, my friend was disappointed with the beef. It was visibly raw, still bleeding, and consisted mostly of fat and gristle. Despite the busy staff and not wanting to complain, we had to send the meal back to the kitchen because it was inedible. When it was returned to us, we noticed that not much had changed; they had likely just reheated it for a few minutes and returned it. It's a shame because my friend ended up eating only the vegetables. I understand that the kitchen was likely very busy, but that's not the way to cook and serve meat. However, I'd like to thank our server, whose name I can't remember, for being very helpful, professional, and understanding and voided the beef roast from our bill. 🙏🏼 We might give The Crown another chance, perhaps just for drinks.
