About This Pub

Ah, The Crescent Inn – it's one of those classic British pubs that you stumble upon in Derby and think, 'This is just what I needed after a long week.' From what I've gathered, it's got that warm, inviting feel where you can sink into a comfy spot with a refreshing pint and catch up with friends, especially if you're a fan of sports on the telly or fancy a game of darts in the beer garden. The staff often get praised for being welcoming, particularly to families with little ones or those with disabilities, and it's a real gem for dog owners who can bring their furry mates along. On the flip side, though, it's not without its downsides – a few people have mentioned the place can feel a tad neglected, with issues like a wonky pool table and some hygiene problems that might make you think twice before settling in. Still, with a solid 4.2 rating from the crowd, it's clear that for many, the good times and traditional charm outweigh the rough edges, so if you're in the area, it's worth a visit for a relaxed evening, just keep an eye out for those little niggles to manage your expectations.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is wonderfully friendly and welcoming, making it feel like a proper community hub where you can relax and chat with mates.
  • It's super dog-friendly, with bowls of water for your four-legged friends, which is a lovely touch if you're popping in with your pooch.
  • They've got a great selection of facilities like pool, darts, and a beer garden, plus live entertainment and sports on Sky and BT, so there's always something going on.
  • The traditional charm really shines through with its characterful bar areas and well-kept cask ales – it's like stepping back in time to a classic British local.
  • Disabled access is spot on, and the staff can be incredibly helpful, especially for families or those with special needs, creating a inclusive vibe.
Cons
  • The pool table isn't level, which can make for a frustrating game if you're keen on a proper match.
  • There's no food on offer, so if you're after a bite to eat with your pint, you'll have to head elsewhere.
  • Some reviews mention the place can be a bit grubby inside, with reports of unpleasant smells and unclean glasses, which isn't ideal for a cosy night out.
  • A few folks have had run-ins with rude or unprofessional staff, and there was even a worrying story about getting ill after a visit, so hygiene might not always be top-notch.
  • It seems like the overall experience can vary, with some mixed feelings on the upkeep and service that might put off first-timers.

Never been before and took our disabled little boy to see santa, the staff were amazing, friendly and welcoming, santa was great, nothing was to much trouble, we even got a little present for him as well and it was free to attend. Great thing to do for our local community in derby more pubs should follow suit. We would definitely visit the cresent again if in the area. 5* The cider on draft my other half really enjoyed as well.

John’s karaoke was excellent as always, pub friendly despite initial appearances. Can’t score food as no offering.

Great little pub. Super well kept beer. A one off as places like this do not exist anymore. This is a traditional old existing pub - the type that used to be a part of every community. There are 4 sections to the bar areas. 1. The existing bar. 2. What used to be the Snug. 3. The converted kitchen. 4. What was the house next-door. Well very pleasant visit again today. Dog gets his fuss and I got to chat with a group of regulars. Such a friendly welcoming establishment. Support this place before it gets lost in time.

This pub is a definite one to avoid. Inside is dirty and the place smells of stale urine throughout. The place is unclean, the glasses are water stained and the staff are rude and also unprofessional. After having one drink here myself and my family had vomiting and diarrhoea for over a week. The best thing for this place is for it to be shut down. Absolutely disgusting little pub that I would not recommend to my worst enemy. Avoid if you can.
