About This Pub
Ah, The Crabtree – it's one of those spots that really captures the essence of a classic London pub, perched right by the Thames between Hammersmith and Putney. I have to say, the views are just magical; imagine sipping on a cold one while watching the river glide by, especially from their Thames Dining Room or the terraces. The food menu is a proper treat too, with hearty pub classics mixed in with some inventive options that give a nod to modern tastes, and they've got events like pub quizzes and sports screenings that keep things buzzing. The staff are often spot on, being quick and cheerful, and it's super welcoming for families and even your furry friends. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few tales of meals not quite living up to expectations – like burgers that end up a bit dry due to company policies, or portions that seem a smidge small for the price tag. Plus, there are occasional reports of staff having an off day, which can dampen the mood, and with a refurb underway, it might not be at its shiniest best right now. All in all, it's worth a visit for the location alone, but go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a grand time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The riverside location is absolutely stunning, with beautiful views of the River Thames that make it a perfect spot for a relaxing pint or meal.
-
They've got a great selection of food and drinks, including classic pub fare with some creative twists, and it's all served up in a welcoming atmosphere.
-
The staff can be really friendly and efficient, which adds to the enjoyable vibe, especially in the large garden area that's ideal for sunny days.
-
It's packed with nice touches like being dog-friendly, family-friendly, and hosting fun events such as pub quizzes and live sport screenings.
-
As a historic waterside pub, it has that authentic charm that makes you feel right at home.
Cons
-
Some dishes, like burgers, might not hit the mark – they can be overcooked, and there are policies that limit customisation, which is a bit disappointing.
-
Portions tend to be on the smaller side, especially for the prices, so you might leave feeling a tad short-changed.
-
There have been a few grumbles about staff not always being at their best, with some experiences feeling a bit off-putting or unprofessional.
-
The place is currently undergoing a small refurb, so it might not be looking or feeling quite as polished as it could be just yet.

Just had the best summer vegan pub food! Lovely pub, nice layout, large garden. Speedy service and the team member who served me was very friendly. I think the pub could use a little love, however they are currently have a small refurb I think, so when they’re done I’m sure it’ll be stunning!
Good vibes, nice front patio area under the tree (deapite being next to bins), and beer garden at back. But the food felt like an afterthought. My burger was overcooked and dry. When I asked if I could have it medium rare, the waiter said it was "company policy" to make it medium-well. It was neither of that, being well done instead. The sour dough bread, albeit warm, didn't taste anything like one. And the burrata said with artichokes was tired and bland. Again, come for the games night or drinks. I'd pass on the food. Better value and taste from gastropubs elsewhere.
Lovely pub about 15 minute walk from tube. Large garden with great views. Food was smaller portions than average gastropub and highly priced. Nice friendly staff
This place used to be decent, but not anymore. The atmosphere has gone downhill, and the staff are now rude and unprofessional. During a recent visit, a bartender with long dark hair—who’s been there a while—was working in the garden area and clearly didn’t want to be there. He acted arrogantly, sent a glass collector kid to tell us to leave once we finished our drinks for no clear reason, and claimed he was some kind of inspector or “undercover Garden specialist.”
When I calmly asked what the issue was, he said I was “annoying him” and then ran to get backup. A supervisor—a chubby man in a blue shirt—stormed over aggressively, moving tables hysterically, said nothing, and started yanking the table around without explanation. The long-haired bartender wanted to start a fight…It was chaotic and childish.
Rudest manager and waiter and bartender ever seen all in one place, no clue on how run pub garden, No basic hospitality, no respect for customers. My wife and I left and won’t be returning. There are far better places to enjoy a drink without being treated like a problem. Avoid this place—it’s become awful.
Went here for a friends birthday 🎂 The place has a good ambiance and the dining area is partially separated from the pub area.
There is a great selection on the menu…some options more traditional English and some that have add a little extra to the traditional dishes (super nice)
The food was really flavourful! I had the cod, potatoes + spinach and chorizo. Would recommended starters due to the portions sizes being on the medium-small size but maybe that’s just me.
Also if it’s your birthday- just know that if you receive a dessert it’s going on the bill- may be common practice in London but I don’t know
