About This Pub

Ah, The Cordwainer, it's one of those reliable Wetherspoons pubs that you can pop into for a cheeky pint without breaking the bank. I reckon it's spot on if you're after a wide selection of drinks at prices that won't make you wince – think getting a whole round for under £40, as someone mentioned in their rave review. The atmosphere is just right too, with that nostalgic design and comfy seating that makes it easy to settle in, plus a lovely outside area for when the sun's out. On the brighter side, you'll find some genuinely helpful staff who add a nice touch to the day. But, and I have to be straight with you, it's not all smooth sailing; a few folks have had rough experiences with the food, like cold breakfasts or waits that drag on forever, and service can sometimes feel a bit lackadaisical, with tables left messy or requests going unanswered. Still, if you keep your expectations in check and focus on the drinks, it's a solid choice for a casual catch-up. All things considered, I'd say give it a go – it's got that warm, welcoming feel, but maybe plan to eat elsewhere if you're after something reliable.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic value for money on drinks, with a huge variety that makes it feel like a treasure trove for beer lovers.
  • Lovely atmosphere and design, especially the throwback style and comfortable seating, including a nice outside area surrounded by greenery.
  • Some staff members are absolute stars, going the extra mile to make your visit enjoyable and turning what could be an ordinary trip into a memorable one.
Cons
  • Food service can be a bit of a letdown, with meals often arriving cold or taking far too long, even when it's not busy.
  • Service isn't always reliable, as staff might overlook dirty tables or ignore queries, which can leave you feeling a tad frustrated.
  • Occasional mix-ups with orders, like missing items or undercooked bits, that might spoil the experience if you're hoping for a proper meal.

This was a great pub for drinking, covering two floors with its throwback design! This is shown in particular at the counter and it is well-presented, large lights are fancy themselves. I had a Leffe, enjoying the comfortable seating in the outside area by greenery.

Absolutely shocking place. Staff are simply lazy. Food took 50 minutes to come out and was stone cold. The staff just ignored the many taes of dirty plates. They walked past them many times while on their way to THE KITCHEN!!! ignorant woman lording herself and ignoring requests for information on where our food was at, literally just walked past and ignored a very clear 'excuse me'. She proceeded to head to the bar where she spent the next 10 minutes chatting with her friends. Honestly, I am and have always been a spoons fan and this is the first time that I have walked away in disbelief.

As Witherspoons go, the Cordwainer is up there. It was one of the best I have visited and I've visited a lot. Koppan, the young man upstairs who served me for food and drink, was an absolute credit to the pub. The chicken melt was very good, and the spicy shawarma had spice but lacked shawarma content. The terrace bar was fantastic, with the weather getting to 26° it was roasting. The outdoor area downstairs was blended into the indoor part of the pub seamlessly... Overall, it was a really nice pub that had the Witherspoons value for money with some really nice visual features that were relaxing and peaceful amongst the roof tops.

It is a venue sent by heaven when it comes down to the variety of drinks vs prices. Hands down it has the most varieties of drinks I have seen yet. The main attraction is the price. Infact, all the pics you saw, the total bill for all those items was only 38£. The seating arrangement is thoughtful. We sat at 1st floor. It also has an outdoor seating but we didn't go there due to cold as we went at night. We ordered through their app. Food and drinks were served directly at our table under 10-15 minutes. All the dishes (Fish chips, Pizza, nachos and cheese fries) were tasty! Do remember to read menu and order properly as they have created schemes like any 3 items for 14£, any 2 cocktails for 14£ etc. Pay attention, take your time. Crowd was also good and it consisted of both young and matured age groups. Only improvement I would say that's needed is they didn't have any sort of background music on. A simple background house music will further enhance the overall experience of this place. I would certainly rate it as my go to place anytime.
