About This Pub

You know, chatting about the Sweet Chestnut in Dunfermline, it's got this lovely warm feel that makes you want to settle in straight away – think cosy corners and a proper pub atmosphere for catching up with mates. The staff are absolute stars, always on hand with a smile and quick to sort you out, and those offers like 30% off mains are just brilliant for keeping things affordable while trying out their menu of pub favourites and carvery options. It's also handy if you're looking for a place to stay overnight, with decent rooms that sound like a comfy pit stop. On the other hand, I've heard a few grumbles about the food not always living up to expectations – things like dry meats or meals that take forever to arrive can really take the edge off. Still, it's got potential, and if you go on a good day, you might just have a cracking time, but it's worth keeping in mind that it might not be perfect every visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are really friendly and attentive, making every visit feel welcoming and personal.
  • It's got a warm, cosy atmosphere that's perfect for unwinding with friends or family after a long day.
  • They offer great deals like 30% off mains, which is a brilliant way to enjoy a meal without breaking the bank.
  • The menu has a good variety, including pub classics and a traditional carvery that's spot on when it's done right.
  • Plus, if you're passing through, they've got comfy rooms for a stay, ideal for a quick overnight stop.
Cons
  • Food quality can be inconsistent, with some dishes turning out dry or undercooked, which puts a dampener on the meal.
  • Wait times for food can drag on, especially for things like the carvery, leaving you a bit frustrated.
  • Service isn't always reliable, with a few reports of delays or mix-ups that make the experience less smooth.
  • Prices seem to have crept up, and some feel it's not quite matching the value, particularly if the food doesn't hit the mark.

Thank you to the staff for a very enjoyable experience. On arrival we were greeted by Jared and shown to our table. (We had booked before arriving). We then ordered our meals and drinks. Both Jorja and Emma were very helpful and attentive....good customer service. We both had the carvery which was very enjoyable. We will definitely return due to the great helpful and friendly service. It's nice to see young people enthusiastic and properly trained on how to take care of customers..well done.

Used to dine here a lot but hadn't been for a while. Got seated and ordered fine. Had to wait for someone to come out kitchen to serve carvery which took a little while. The boy couldn't really carve the meat it was so dry and grizzly. Couldn't eat the roasties as they tasted as if they had been under the heater for hours. Couldn't cut the Yorkshire pudding as even that was all dried up. The table we were given had ripped cushions and very shaky chairs. So disappointed as used to enjoy this place. When asked if we enjoyed our meal we told them no it was too dry. They never said anything and just walked away. Three upset stomachs this morning, not nice. Gave one star for the dessert which was lovely and fresh.

As someone who has ate here with family a lot over the years i was massively disappointed. This place has gone so downhill and are going to price themselves out of business. We went recently for steak night and for £15 this is what i got. I had to return the steak because it could break windows, they did replace it, with one that was then very pink (medium/well done was the request) but I ate it as the other people I was there with had almost finished their main course. I did complain but they don't seem interested. Will be sticking to your sister restaurant, never had a bad meal there yet !

We walked in on the hope of getting a table, the young gentleman hesitated for a while before agreeing to give us a table. We ordered, food came out separately with 7 mins between them. Steak was not cooked to well done, chicken was luke warm, peppercorn sauce was cold, cut around the raw parts because he was hungry. Also got a shared dish which only fed one person, one small layer of chips and 4 goujons cut up with a sprinkle of curry sauce. We had to ask for cutlery then again for salt. No-one checked on us. We left most of our food, did not complain despite trying to get someone's attention unsuccessfully. Will not be back.

Visited here with my family yesterday night. The place has a lovely warm atmosphere the second you walk through the door. We were very impressed with our meals, 2 of us ordered meals from the menu and 1 of us chose to have the carvery, unfortunately it took around 30/40 minutes for the 2 meals to arrive so by then the person who had the carvery was almost finished. Despite the slightly long wait however, we had a lovely time here and enjoyed our meals a lot. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!
