About This Pub

Ah, The Clock Face, what a delightful little find in Prescot! I've got to say, it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its fresh refurb and that cosy, modern vibe, making it ideal for a relaxed evening or a family meal. The food's a highlight for me; those home-cooked classics with local twists are spot on, and pairing them with a pint of Thwaites ale feels like a proper treat. The staff are an absolute joy, always so welcoming and attentive, whether you're just nipping in for a drink or settling in for the night in their peaceful rooms. It's got that historical charm too, being a Georgian building in a watchmaking town, which adds a nice touch of character. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few grumbles about things like a dodgy hand drier in the loos, and some folks felt the specials didn't quite live up to the hype, more everyday than extraordinary. Still, with a solid 4.2 rating from the crowd, it's clear this place gets more right than wrong, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go for a laid-back night out – just keep expectations realistic for the odd minor flaw.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely welcoming and family-friendly, with a lovely refurbished space that's perfect for relaxing by the fire or catching up with mates.
  • The food is spot on – think hearty pub classics made with fresh, local ingredients, like that steak pie everyone's raving about, paired with quality Thwaites ales.
  • Service is top-notch; the staff are super friendly and make you feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or staying over in their luxurious rooms.
  • It's got a rich history as a Georgian building tied to Lord Derby, and the location in Prescot is brilliant for a bite, a drink, or even hosting a celebration.
  • They've got a great selection of menus, from breakfast to cocktails, and the wine tastings sound like a fun night out with fantastic food pairings.
Cons
  • A couple of reviews mentioned minor niggles, like that unreliable hand drier in the toilets, which might put a dampener on things if you're not prepared.
  • Some dishes on the specials board were described as just okay – nothing groundbreaking, more like what you'd find in the freezer aisle, so it might not wow everyone.
  • As it's not claimed by the owner on Google, there could be a slight lag in addressing any issues that crop up, which is a shame for such a promising spot.

An oasis of sophistication. This splendid town pub has been extensively refurbished and cleaned up recently and stands comparison with any other dining pub in the North West. Only one complaint, the hand drier in the otherwise immaculate gents toilets was about as reliable as a 787 on a bad night. 😉

Popped in for lunch with my wife and we both tried something off the specials board. They were OK, just well cooked and well presented stuff I'm sure you can get in the freezer section of the local supermarket. Then came the pie. Probably the best steak pie we have ever had...check out the photos...I had mine with skin-on fries and my wife had the mash. Delicious! Really nice place, lovely staff and reasonable prices and we will definitely go back.
