About This Pub

Ah, the Sun Inn – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this wonderful cosy atmosphere with a log burner that's spot on for those chilly nights, and the staff really go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome. The beers are spot-on too, with some cracking real ales that are well-kept and won't break the bank, plus there's a beer garden that's great for soaking up the sun on a nice day. And if you're up for it, you can have a go at darts or even tuck into a hearty roast dinner that's been getting rave reviews. On the flip side, it's clear the place is showing its age a bit – the building could do with some TLC to keep it looking its best. Still, with such high ratings and positive vibes overall, it's a solid choice for a laid-back night out, and I'd say it's worth popping in for a pint if you're in Prescot.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got that lovely old-fashioned charm with a cosy log burner, making it perfect for a relaxing evening.
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant and create a welcoming atmosphere that's hard to beat.
  • They offer a great selection of beers, including well-kept real ales, and it's all at inexpensive prices.
  • There's a nice beer garden for enjoying a drink outdoors when the weather's on your side.
  • You can have a laugh with games like darts, and they've got tasty options like excellent roast dinners.
Cons
  • The building feels a bit worn out and could do with some updating to keep things fresh.
  • Their online presence isn't the strongest, as the website seems to be playing up, which might make it tricky to check details beforehand.

As one of the last bastions of any decent real ale in Prescot, the Sun Inn has hung in there, and is definately worthy of mention. It has at least two real ales on, well kept, usually nationally sourced. The building is beautiful, but very tired, it has all the basics of its original pub/hotel/inn layout, the toilets still have their original glass windows, it could just do with some investment. It has a nice beer garden, with decking and seats, with the much nicer, previous pub signs adorning the garden walls. The front room is lovely. With some renovation and the ability to source more adventurous ale, and having the custom to maintain it, this pub could be an absolute historic gem.
