About This Pub

Ah, the Hare & Hounds in Tarbock – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its warm, relaxed feel, tucked away on the edge of Liverpool. I love how the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome; they're polite, chatty, and really add to the homely atmosphere, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or a full meal. The food's generally spot on for the price, with deals like two mains for around £11.50 that give you solid portions of tasty dishes – perfect if you're out with mates and want something hearty without spending a fortune. It's also ace for sports fans, with live events like the Women's Euros or the Lions tour playing on the screens, and the outdoor area is a treat on a nice day, especially if you've got kids or a dog in tow. On the downside, though, I've heard a few grumbles about the food not always hitting the mark; things like salad that's past its best or dishes that don't quite live up to the hype can take the edge off. Still, overall, it's a reliable choice for a good night out – honest, unpretentious, and just what you need after a long week, as long as you keep expectations realistic.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home with their smiles and helpful nature.
  • Affordable food deals, like two mains for under £12, offer great value for a satisfying meal without breaking the bank.
  • A lively atmosphere, especially during big sports events like the Women's Euros or rugby tours, with plenty of screens to catch the action.
  • Outdoor seating and a play area make it a brilliant spot for families or enjoying a sunny day with a cold pint.
  • A good selection of drinks, including nicely chilled San Miguel and Moretti, plus it's dog-friendly and has handy facilities like free WiFi.
Cons
  • Some food items can be inconsistent, like bagged salad that's not always fresh and showing signs of browning.
  • Occasional preparation slip-ups, such as dishes not being cooked as expected in the skillet, which might disappoint if you're after perfection.
  • It might feel a tad ordinary on quieter days, without much to set it apart from other local pubs if you're seeking something unique.

Decided to come here for a family lunch after checking in at a hotel down the road. Food was superb but the Land lady stole the show!! Friendly, funny, and helpful. Would definitely recommend Hare & Hounds.

I had a Tikka Tandoori "sizzle". Potato tots and chicken wings were deep fried, cooked well and crispy. Tandoori chicken and Tikka sauce were flavourful. Down sides were salad out of a bag was browning, onions were boiled and I don't think anything was actually cooked in the skillet.

Been a few times for the 2 mains for £11.49 and they are decent meals. Worth it if your on a budget and fancy a meal cooked for you.Decent pint of San Miguel and morreti nice and cold. Seats and play area outside when it's sunny. Been many times since my original review and again you can't go wrong for 2 meals all day weekdays.
