About This Pub

Ah, The Clachan – it's one of those classic London pubs that really captures the spirit of the city, tucked away in Soho with its 1898 Victorian charm and original features that make you feel like you're in a bygone era. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's a top spot for enjoying a perfect pint and some hearty pub fare; the fish and chips sound spot on, all crispy and flavoursome, and don't get me started on that sticky toffee pudding – pure comfort in a bowl! The service shines through in a few accounts, with staff going the extra mile to make your visit enjoyable. On the flip side, it's not all roses; a few folks have had off days with meals that were underwhelming, like a steak pie that was more crust than substance or burgers that were a bit dry, and the place can get rammed, especially for tourists, which might slow things down. Overall, with a solid 4.3 rating, it's worth a visit if you're in the area for a relaxed meet-up, but maybe keep expectations in check for the food and plan for it being bustling – that way, you're in for a treat without any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic vibe is absolutely charming – with its original Victorian features like rich wood carvings, it feels like stepping back in time, perfect for a cosy catch-up with mates.
  • The food hits the spot for classic pub grub; think delicious fish and chips that's crispy and flaky, tasty bangers and mash, and that sticky toffee pudding which is just divine – it's all about those unbeatable British pies and pints.
  • Service can be spot on, like with friendly staff who make you feel right at home, as a few folks have mentioned in their reviews.
  • It's a brilliant spot in the heart of Soho, ideal for relaxing with friends, family, or colleagues, and being part of a chain means reliable options without surprises.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss; some dishes like the steak and ale pie turned up with tiny portions of meat, a tough crust, and overly soggy veg, which left a bad taste.
  • It gets pretty busy, especially as a touristy pub near Oxford Circus, making it hard to snag a table and sometimes leading to slower service, like with their online ordering via QR codes.
  • A couple of meals didn't live up to expectations, such as cold chips with fish and chips or dry burgers, which might disappoint if you're after a flawless meal.
  • Prices are moderate, but for what you get sometimes, like paying around £50 for two mains, beers, and a soft drink, it might feel a tad steep if the food isn't quite up to par.

Really nice vibe upstairs. The fish and chips were really good, crispy, flakey and salty. Bangers and mash also very good! The sticky toffee pudding was soooo good!

Quite a busy "Tourist" pub close by Oxford Circus. It's part of a chain so same food and selections as other pubs. Their online order service (QR code) was very slow. We were lucky to get a table and grabbed some burgers and beer. Burgers a bit on the dry side.

Really poor quality food served on 4 Jan 25 where we had dinner for 5. Steak and ale pie had 4 small pieces of meat, with a rock hard crust and the soggiest carrots ever. Fish and chips came without the scampi and with the coldest chips, and the burger was average at best. Really disappointing experience.
