About This Pub

Ah, The Argyll Arms – it's one of those pubs that just warms you up from the moment you step inside. Tucked away near Oxford Circus, this place has bags of character with its Victorian heritage and tales of secret tunnels from back in the day; it's like stepping into a piece of London's history without the fuss. The staff are absolute gems, always up for a chat and making sure you're looked after, which really adds to the cosy vibe. You'll find a cracking selection of drinks, from top-notch ales to gins, and the menu's full of British classics that go down a treat, especially if you're in the mood for something hearty like that Club sandwich everyone's raving about. On the downside, not every dish is a winner – some feedback suggests the steak sandwich is just okay, so it might not be the spot for a gourmet meal. Still, it's a brilliant place to pop in with friends for a laugh and a pint, though it does get crowded at times, so arriving early could save you the hassle. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after that authentic pub experience in the city, with more highs than lows to keep you coming back.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
  • It's got that classic historic charm, with a rich backstory dating back to 1868 that's fascinating to learn about.
  • The selection of beers, ales, and gins is spot on – perfect for anyone after a proper pint in a traditional setting.
  • The pub grub is generally solid, with some standout dishes like the Club sandwich that really hit the mark.
  • Its prime spot near Oxford Circus makes it super convenient for a quick stop after exploring the city.
Cons
  • Some of the food can be a bit hit or miss, like the steak sandwich that didn't quite live up to expectations.
  • It can get quite busy in the city centre, which might make it tricky to find a seat during peak times.
  • The operating hours vary a tad, so it's worth double-checking if you're planning a late evening out.

Went here with a group of friends and was seated at a table upstairs. Immediately, we were welcomed by our bartender, Chris. He absolutely made our night with his excellent service and friendliness. We had such a great time and would definitely come back just to be served by him again!

We only got a couple of starters and they were pretty good. Didn't try the mains tho. Pretty good selection of beers as well. Interiors are just amazing

Went in to have lunch and few drinks with my colleagues for my birthday. My colleagues had steak sandwich and said it was a 6/10. I had a Club sandwich which I would rate as a 8/10. The staff there are friendly and nice. Would go there again for a nice club sandwich and few drinks. Thank you ☺️

Probs my best pub in this area. It has such a charm, historical and handsome. Renowned for its ales and gins, with a good selection of food and other drinks, backs off from the London palladium, 2 minutes from Oxford circus, tucked neatly on the corner from Oxford street. Friendly staff, seating inside with booths available and seating outside. Clean toilets, lovely atmosphere.
