About This Pub
Ah, let me share my thoughts on The Chipperfield Boot – it's this delightful old pub that's been around for over 400 years, now under new ownership and absolutely buzzing with good energy. From the reviews I've had a look at, folks are raving about the food; it's fresh, hearty modern English fare that's cooked to order, with standout Sunday roasts that leave you scraping the plate clean. The garden is a real highlight, especially on a sunny day, and it's so accommodating for families and pets, which makes it feel inclusive and homely. They've got a cracking lineup of events too, from Madness tribute nights to festivals and sports on the telly, so there's always something on to liven things up. On the downside, it's out in the Hertfordshire countryside, which is gorgeous but might not be ideal if you're after something more central – and those operating hours do look a bit muddled, so you'd want to double-check before heading out for an evening. All in all, it's a proper gem for a quality pub experience, and while it's not without its quirks, the positives far outweigh any niggles, making it well worth a visit if you're in the area.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely brilliant – fresh, modern English cuisine that's a real step up from your average pub grub, with generous portions and dishes you won't find in chain spots.
-
It's got a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere, especially under the new ownership, with a cosy, refurbished interior and a beautiful garden that's perfect for unwinding.
-
They're super family and pet-friendly, making it easy to pop in with the kids or the dog for lunch or drinks in that tranquil rural setting.
-
Loads of events keep things lively, like quiz nights, live music, BBQs, and even sports screenings on big screens – great for catching the footy or enjoying a tribute band.
-
A solid selection of drinks, including real ale, gins, and wines, plus they're open seven days a week for food, which is handy for a proper meal anytime.
Cons
-
It's tucked away in a rural spot in Hertfordshire, so if you're not local, it might feel a bit of a trek and not the easiest to get to without a car.
-
The operating hours seem a tad confusing from what's listed, with varying closing times that could leave you guessing if you're planning a late visit.
-
With only a handful of reviews available, it's hard to get a full sense of consistency, though the ones we've seen are glowing – still, every place has off days.

I wanted to take a moment to share my experience at The Chipperfield Boot during my birthday celebration yesterday. I celebrated with 30 friends, a delightful Sunday lunch, and I must say it was an exceptional experience.
The food was absolutely amazing, showcasing both quality and flavor that truly impressed me. I also enjoyed a lovely glass of wine that perfectly complemented the meal.
What stood out the most was the outstanding service. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure that my celebration was memorable.
Overall, I had a fantastic time, and I would highly recommend The Chipperfield Boot to anyone looking for a great dining experience.

This is our local pub and it’s brilliant to see what the new owners are doing. They have completely refurbished it and created a welcoming atmosphere inside and out. Real ale at the pumps and a good range of gins and wine!
Food is now being served during the daytime.
Breakfast Mon-Sat 9-11 .. FYI they have a fancy coffee machine!
Lunch menu Mon -Sat 11-4
Sunday 11-4 they serve a Sunday Roast which is tasty and great portion size!
Worth following them on Facebook and Instagram for details of live music and events.
We booked a table for drinks and the Sunday Roast today. Everything from being greeted to table service was warm and welcoming. We went for the rib of beef roast dinner and it was amazing. All 4 of us (3 adults and 1 child) didn’t leave a single thing on the plate. The beef was tender, potatoes crispy and gravy was rich. I’m not a vegetable lover but ate everything on the plate. The portions are big and we had no room for dessert, but we couldn’t leave without them and they didn’t disappoint. Very reasonable prices and leagues ahead on flavours, service and atmosphere compared to the bland commercial Carvery chain we all know. I don’t usually write reviews but it’s probably one of the best roasts I’ve had in years. Would well recommend and will visit again regularly with family.
Went for lunch with my Mum and from start to finish it was a really great dining experience. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, pub was clean and tidy and had a great range of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. We took our dog with us and he was made to feel just as welcome as the humans which was lovely! Food was amazing too! Started with creamy garlic mushrooms which were delicious followed by Salmon mains with garlic mash, asparagus and beetroot aioli. All the flavours complimented each other so well, it was a great meal. Will definitely be going back to try out more of the menu!
We came in for a midweek lunch and we were so impressed with the food. You can tell this is all cooked fresh to order, portions sizes are plenty and there are different dishes you won't find in your usual chain pubs. The young lady that was serving was also brilliant, nothing was too much, we can't wait to visit again
