About This Pub
Ah, The Chester Arms – what a cracking little pub it is in Oxford. I've got to say, the food steals the show; that steak platter is as good as everyone raves about, with tender meat and generous portions that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. The Sunday roasts are another highlight, drawing in crowds who clearly know a good thing when they see it, and it's all served up in a welcoming, family-run setting where the staff make you feel right at home. Plus, if you're out with your dog, they'll roll out the red carpet – it's that kind of place. On the flip side, if you're someone who likes their steak well-done, you might find the options a tad limited, as they stick to medium rare at most. And do keep an eye on their schedule, as they sometimes close for a day or two, which could throw a spanner in your plans. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a bite, with that homely charm that makes you want to come back for more.

-
It's a proper dog-friendly spot, which is lovely if you're popping in with your four-legged mate; they've even got a gallery of pooch visitors.
-
The staff are really welcoming and the atmosphere is warm and buzzing, making it feel like a true neighbourhood gem.
-
They've got a cracking selection of beers, including guest brews and options for all tastes, like gluten-free ones.
-
Prices are spot on for the quality – you get plenty for your money, which makes it a great value night out.
Cons

They only cook steak up to medium rare, so if you prefer yours a bit more done, you might be disappointed.
-
There are occasional closures or changes to opening times, like being shut on certain days, so it's worth double-checking before you head over.

Simply awesome! When you see how people queue for their Sunday roasts you’ll know it’s the real deal. I’ve tried their roast with pork, lamb and beef. Pork was my fave but all were great.
Stopped here on a whim for dinner and were seated promptly with no reservations despite the place heaving with people. Nice people, astonishingly good food, and impressive beer selection. Clearly a very popular place.
I visited a few days ago. The atmosphere was lovely and the servers were really friendly. I only wish they could cook the steak a little more as I like mine medium at least and the most they can cook it is medium rare. That was the only thing I wish they would improve on
Such a lovely pub a good selection of local beers.
Food was amazing. If your group have three men and they eat a lot, better to order 2x 2people portion, cuz my group of guys had the 3 ppl one first and not enough for them, so ordered another 2ppl one, but ended up too much food (glad we finished most of them haha)
Steak platter lived up to the hype - delicious (including the sides), tender, and plentiful. Incredibly reasonable price for what you get.
