About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The Black Swan – it's one of those cosy spots in Oxford that really hits the mark for a laid-back evening with friends. I love how the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome; they're so bubbly and attentive, it just adds to the charm. The snacks and pints are spot on too, fuelling those quick visits or longer sessions, and the outdoor garden is a real winner for summer days, with its space for events and a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to linger. It's got that community feel, especially during things like live music at festivals. On the downside, though, the beer options don't quite live up to the hype – no ales or much variety, so if you're a beer enthusiast, you might find it a tad lacking. And if hunger strikes beyond a packet of crisps, you're out of luck, as there's no proper food menu. Plus, with no parking around, it's best tackled on foot or by public transport. All in all, it's a solid choice for what it offers, but I'd say it's perfect for a simple, affordable catch-up rather than a full night out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and friendly, always ready with a smile and top-notch service that makes you feel right at home.
-
They've got a cracking selection of snacks and pints – perfect for satisfying those everyday cravings and enjoying a proper drink.
-
The outdoor garden is spacious and ideal for soaking up the sun, especially during events or festivals, with plenty of space and seating to relax.
-
Prices are spot on for a casual outing, making it an affordable spot to pop in for a pint without breaking the bank.
Cons
-
The beer selection is a bit limited, with no ales or a wide range of decent options, which might disappoint if you're after something more varied.
-
Food choices are pretty basic – just crisps and nuts on offer, so if you're hoping for a proper meal, you'll need to look elsewhere.
-
Parking's a right faff in that area, with none available, which can make getting there a hassle if you're driving.

Where to start honestly!!! The black swan, my local. The snack selection fuels my daily needs and genuinely out of this world amazing. The staff are the bubbliest and most friendly people with an unbelievable touch for pouring the best pints around.
I’ve seen recently that someone said the snack selection is pure and I think that is ridiculous. Not only are prices here good but there are tons of snacks and the service is great! Must visit when you’re in Oxford
Unfortunately Ales and decent beers are not served here. Neither is food or a range of snacks other than crisps and nuts.
There's a spacious rear garden where parties and events appear to be very popular, particularly in the summer.
There is no parking given its location in the rat run of the area, no disabled access or toilets and no comfortable seating. It's also extremely cold in winter and the stench of the men's toilets engulfs one end of the entire venue.
Sports events appear to be quite popular
Michelle was absolutely amazing in giving me and my friend first class service
Cocktails amazing

Great place will be back
Came down to the Black Swan during Cowley Road Carnival.
Had an excellent time there with all the live music and people around. Enjoyed a lovely few cold beers in the outside area.
Would highly recommend for somewhere relaxed to sit on a warm afternoon. Plenty of space and seating with the outdoor bar.
Will be back again soon no doubt 👏
