About This Pub
Ah, The Chequers Inn – it's one of those cosy spots that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is spot on; think hearty homemade dishes with massive portions that leave you stuffed and smiling, all at prices that won't sting your wallet. The staff really go the extra mile with their warm service, and there's a solid lineup of ales that make it easy to settle in for a good chat. It's got that traditional village pub charm, with a safe setup that handled the COVID rules brilliantly, so you can relax without a worry. On the flip side, though, sorting out a table means picking up the phone instead of booking online, which might be a minor hassle in this digital age, and the menu's not overflowing with choices, so it might not suit if you're after something really fancy or varied. All in all, it's a solid pick for anyone in the area looking for a reliable spot to grab a bite and a bevvy – I'd say give it a go if you're nearby, as the positives far outweigh the little niggles.
Pros and Cons

They've got a fantastic selection of quality ales and beers, including some cracking pints that really hit the spot.
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a lovely village pub vibe that's ideal for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
-
It's impressively COVID-safe, with well-organised measures that make you feel secure while enjoying your time there.
Cons
-
Booking a table means giving them a ring rather than doing it online, which can feel a bit outdated and less convenient.
-
The menu isn't massive, so if you're after a huge variety of options, you might find it a tad limited.
-
Opening hours can vary, like on Sundays, so it's worth checking ahead to avoid any disappointment if you're planning a visit.

First time I've been in 30 years ish. It hasn't really changed. The staff were great, polite, and helpful. The food was lovely. Highly recommended. My only negative is you have to ring to book. No booking online.
My first visit.
Very nice food, very good value for money and excellent service!
What more can you ask for.
It's been a few years since I've been in, as we usually head to the Sitwell, but I'm glad we decided to have a change.
Great service (bar maid very efficient, quick pint pulling and very friendly).
A very good pint of Cruz Campo.
I have not eaten here yet but might try the food on the next visit.
visited again 12:00 on saturday, after two years. the meals ordered were delicious. the chilli beef was medium spicy. the lamb rump was tender, the slow roasted beef was good. meals were in generous portions. they were value for money. remember look for special menu broads
A late lunch 3:30pm today, have a delicious and good generous portion of ox tail & mesh potato meal. if you enjoy ox tails, you should try this dish when it is still on a special menu
This is a great place to come for a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The pub itself is quite big, and the tables for those wanting to eat are nicely spaced so you are not sat on top of each other.
The menu isn't huge but has something for all tastes and a good selection of specials.
For value for money, it's excellent. Everything is freshly prepared and presented nicely.
Would definitely recommend it.
