About This Pub

You know, The Chequers in Hornchurch is one of those pubs that really grows on you – it's got that cosy, down-to-earth feel where you can pop in for a pint and feel like you're among friends. The staff stand out as absolute gems; they're always cheerful and make sure everyone feels welcome, whether you're there for a quick drink or a bite to eat. From what I've gathered, the food's a highlight too – folks rave about dishes like the tandoori sea bream and giant king prawns, and it's clear it's a step up from your average pub grub. It's perfect for a laid-back evening watching the footy or chatting with mates over reasonable drinks. That said, it's not all perfect; a few have mentioned that some items, like the chips, can be a tad soft, or the fish might be a smidge too salty, so it pays to keep expectations in check, especially if you're aiming for a meal later in the day. Overall, though, it's a solid spot that delivers more hits than misses, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area for a proper pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's a brilliant spot for a relaxed drink or catching the footy with mates, with a chilled atmosphere that's just spot on.
  • The food gets high marks from those who've tried it – things like the tandoori sea bream and king prawns sound absolutely delicious.
  • The toilets are kept lovely and clean, which is always a nice touch in a pub.
Cons
  • Some dishes might not quite hit the spot, like chips that can be a bit soft or fish with a slightly salty coating.
  • It might not be the best choice if you're popping in late for lunch, as the experience could vary depending on the time.

Lovely Pub. Staff make you feel welcome. Toilets lovely and Clean. Didn't have any food ourselves, but saw others ordering and the food looked lovely.. Been to this pub again today, just for a drink and again received a warm welcome.

The service is good and friendly. The chips may be little bit soft and the fish (the 'coating') slightly salty to me; the fish is fresh and tasty. And it may be that I visited the pub late for the order of lunch. Worth to try it anyway.
