About This Pub

Ah, J.J. Moon's, it's one of those classic Wetherspoon pubs that you can always count on for a straightforward good time. I've got to say, the real winner here is how wallet-friendly everything is; you can pop in for a big lunch, a refreshing cider, and even a sweet treat without breaking the bank – it's like a little bargain haven that makes me smile every time. The place is massive too, with plenty of room to spread out and chat away with your pals, which is just what you want on a busy night. From what I've seen in the reviews, the food holds up well; folks are raving about the meals being surprisingly tasty for a pub grub spot, and it's that consistency that keeps drawing people back. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect – there've been a couple of stories about staff not being as warm as they could be, maybe not greeting you properly or handling situations a bit roughly, like in that one case where someone felt unfairly treated. Still, overall, with a solid 4.0 rating from heaps of reviews, it's clear this place does a lot right, and I'd reckon it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just keep an eye out for those occasional slip-ups to make sure your experience stays on the positive side.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The prices are absolutely brilliant – you can get a hearty meal and a drink for next to nothing, making it a top spot for a budget-friendly night out.
  • It's got loads of space, so you won't feel crammed in, perfect for catching up with mates without elbowing anyone.
  • The food and drinks are consistently good; it's that reliable Spoons vibe where you know exactly what you're getting and it's usually spot on.
  • Staff can be really attentive and friendly, adding a nice touch to your visit.
Cons
  • There have been a few reports of staff not always being the most welcoming, like skipping greetings or jumping to conclusions in tricky situations.
  • Occasionally, there might be issues with security being a bit heavy-handed, which could put a damper on an otherwise relaxed evening.

Standard Spoons. Love it. Huge, loads of room for a drink.

I visited here with my friend after visiting the Queens theatre. We were asked to leave because apparently we were drunk. However we hadn't been drinking. My friend was unsteady on her feet because of a knee operation. The woman who apparently was head of security was abusive and would not listen to us. She was a jobs worth little person who needs to wind her neck in .

Although pubs aren't the best places to expect good food, J.J.Moons does a fantastic job in their kitchen section.. almost every lunch/dinner meals we've ordered left us surprised and satisfied and made us come back for more. The staff could make this establishment better by simply greeting their patrons with a little cheerfulness rather than making it look like they're least interested in the business, from staff at the drinks counter to people getting food at the table - the general mood seems very melancholic which is a big put off. Given its not so user friendly location and lack of parking facilities, the management can simply work on what they do best and figure out a way to make the patrons feel more welcoming. All and all, a nice place right in the middle of the high street.

Where else can you go and eat a big lunch, a bottle of cider, and a dish of ice cream and strawberries for eleven quid? Spoons is spoons, you know what you're getting and you get it every single time. Consistent, quick, cheap. No nasty surprises. Lovely staff. Absolutely zero complaints. Thank you!

Standard 'Spoons, but you can't argue with the price of a pint. Drank a nice Admiral's Reserve from Woodforde Brewery when we visited, and the staff were very attentive. Unlikely we'll be in that area again, but would definitely visit if so.
