About This Pub

Ah, The Chandos – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of London, isn't it? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's got this lovely, old-world feel with its wooden booths and tucked-away spots that make you want to linger over a pint. The staff are absolute gems, always on hand with a smile and efficient service, which really adds to the experience, especially if you're popping in for a meal after a long day of wandering the city. Their pub classics, like the sausages and mash, come highly recommended, and those Samuel Smith's beers are a treat – properly brewed with natural ingredients, just as a good pint should be. It's in such a handy location too, making it easy to duck in for a quick drink or a catch-up. But, to be fair, it's not all roses; some folks have noted that the portions can feel a bit stingy, and there were mentions of salads that didn't quite live up to expectations, coming across as a little lacklustre. Plus, you might end up being shuffled upstairs for food, which can be a minor hassle if you're settled in. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for anyone after a bit of that classic pub atmosphere – I'd say give it a go, but keep those expectations balanced for a genuinely enjoyable visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The traditional charm of the place is spot on – those mahogany booths and cosy alcoves make it feel like a proper old-school London pub, perfect for unwinding after a day out.
  • The service is top-notch; staff are quick and friendly, making you feel right at home, whether you're grabbing a pint or settling in for a meal.
  • They've got some cracking pub classics on the menu, like sausages and mash, and the beers from Samuel Smith's are brewed with real care – it's all about that authentic taste.
  • It's in a brilliant spot near Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square, ideal for a quiet spot to relax or catch up with mates after sightseeing.
Cons
  • Portions can be a tad small for some dishes, so you might find yourself still a bit peckish after your meal.
  • A few reviews mentioned that some sides, like salads, weren't up to scratch – they came across as a bit underwhelming or not as fresh as you'd hope.
  • There's a bit of inconsistency with where you can eat; sometimes you're directed upstairs, which might disrupt the flow if you're already comfy downstairs.

I was looking for a quiet spot for meal and a cold pint after a day spent walking around London. I happened upon The Chandos outside of Covent Garden. I stopped in and was directed upstairs to the dining room. I had exceptional service from the bartender, Riley, who was quick with my drinks and very good company. The space is lovely, the food is delicious and when you need a little respite from the crowds and chaos, go here. You’ll be so glad you did! The fish and chips are wonderful and the organic wheat beer from Sam Adam’s hit the spot!

Had a lovely meal and some drinks upstairs at the Chandos. The restaurant was beautiful, and had a traditional charm we appreciated as it was our first time in London. Service was great, and there wasn’t a long wait for food. I definitely recommend trying the sausages and mash, and a pint of the traditional cask ale! Would love to come back one day.

Come on y'all!!. From Texas here. This place was bumping during the festive season. My mate (read Bud) and I hit it after a Charlton game. Easy access from Embankment station. Great atmosphere from the theater crowd. Love the set back alcoves, tables to create an ambiance not to be missed.

Being coming for a long time. Love having a drink here. Beautiful place located just off Trafalgar Square. Came for some food. Told we had to go upstairs for food, as opposed to previous visits where we'd eaten downstairs, but fair enough. Service very good. Good was good but a little small considering how much it costs. Went for fish and chips, had 10 chips. Wasn't great, especially for the price which was high. Slightly disappointed.
