About This Pub

Ah, The Britannia in Richmond is one of those places that just hits the spot for a proper pub experience with a touch of class. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got these fabulous outdoor spots, like the roof terrace, which are perfect for enjoying a sunny lunch or dinner without a care. The food's a real highlight too – think mouth-watering options that cater to all tastes, with everything presented beautifully and tasting spot on. And the service? Well, it's warm and attentive, making you feel genuinely welcome, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or settling in for a full meal. It's especially great for special occasions, like a birthday bash or a pre-theatre bite, with that cosy atmosphere that keeps everyone coming back. On the flip side, though, it's worth noting that on Sundays, they switch to a special menu, which might mean your go-to dishes aren't available, so it's smart to check ahead if you've got your heart set on something. Plus, it does get busy at times, adding to the lively feel but potentially meaning a bit of a wait. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out – the highs definitely outweigh the minor niggles, and I'd say it's well worth a visit for anyone looking for a balanced blend of pub charm and decent dining.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The outdoor dining areas and roof terrace are absolutely brilliant for soaking up the sun on a summer day, making it a top spot for alfresco meals.
  • The menu has a great variety with something for everyone, from classic pub grub to more refined dishes, and the food is consistently delicious with fantastic presentation.
  • Service is always friendly and attentive, which really adds to the welcoming atmosphere and makes you feel right at home.
  • It's got a warm and inviting vibe, perfect for celebrations like birthdays or a casual pre-theatre dinner, and it's buzzing with happy energy.
  • With a solid 4.4 rating from plenty of visitors, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a good time overall.
Cons
  • On special days like Sundays, the menu might be limited, so you could miss out on favourites like the beef fillet if you're set on it.
  • It can get quite busy, which means things might feel a bit lively or you could face a wait, though it's never overwhelmingly noisy.
  • Portions are generous, which is great, but you might end up too full for dessert, as one visitor mentioned after a hearty meal.

Service excellent, food delicious we had the set menu of soufflé and lightly crispy battered cod and chips. Sadly couldn’t fit a dessert. Lovely table cloths and cutlery. Perfect for pre theatre dinner

The Britannia on the wonderfully named Brewers Lane in Richmond. A great little 'pub', more of a restaurant really but busy and happy. Great staff and a wonderful welcome. Happily imbibed a pint of lager and noted a couple of casks on offer. This is a busy, popular place focussed on welcoming families and friends to dine and relax. A great place.

5-Star Review for Britannia Pub & Restaurant - A Perfect Sunday Lunch Experience! Birthday 🎂 We had the most wonderful Sunday lunch today at Britannia Pub & Restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it the ideal setting for a birthday 🎁 celebration. The staff were incredibly attentive throughout our visit, anticipating our needs and ensuring everything was perfect. The food was simply fantastic. We started with the artichoke soup and tempura prawns, both of which were beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. For mains, we tried a selection of Sunday roasts—both the beef and pork were cooked to perfection, tender and rich, with all the classic trimmings. Every bite was delicious and comforting, exactly what you’d hope for in a traditional British roast. The whole experience was seamless and enjoyable. Whether you’re after a special occasion or just a lovely Sunday meal, the Britannia truly knows how to make a lunch memorable. Highly recommended! * * * * * P.S. Two members of our party required gluten-free options, and the Britannia wonderfully accommodated their needs. The gluten-free dishes were equally delightful, showcasing the kitchen's versatility and commitment to all guests. P.P.S. The icing on the cake (!) was the surprise birthday candle presented with our pudding and coffee. It was a thoughtful touch that made our celebration even more special.

The special Sunday menu meant they did not have their regular beef fillet (apparently excellent), which was why we'd gone in the first place, but still, a lovely relaxing experience in a pretty location with a peaceful ambience. They were busy (but not noisy) and gave us a table inside despite not having a reservation. Generous portions, well presented dishes, cider on tap, kind service - we left feeling very happy.
